Are C100 irons 4-GW too advanced for me?

The reason I ask is I just started playing golf last summer and I have some Hippo irons which are outdated. I was able to hit the C100 7 iron at a local range and the club felt soo nice and the ball launched high and straight. Does anyone play these irons and can give a review. The guy that works at the range said they are legit and would work great for mid handicap and have enough forgiveness and wide sole for a beginner. Is he trying to work me over or would they be a good investment. The only negative is they cost 500 bucks.

$500 is a good price for a new set of irons. Also, if they work on the range, there is no reason they wouldn't work on the course.

Yes those are exactly the irons. I haven't heard a lot of negative about them only positive but I wonder why they're soo expensive. Isn't Wilson golf clubs cheaply made like Hippo irons?

I don't know anything about Hippo irons so I can't help you there. In terms of Wilson, they do make "recreational" clubs that are cheaper but also make sets of irons that sell for $900-1,000 that are used on tour. Wilson makes good stuff and has made a mini-comeback in terms of their image the last few years.

$500 is a great price for a new set of irons from a name brand.

Those are a quality Iron without doubt.  Price is fair, but before you buy take a trip to Dick's or Golf Galaxy(same Company).  They are selling some last years models really cheap.  Don't limit yourself.  Find something that works for you and looks good to your eye.  I will state those Wilsons are fine irons and I'd bag them.

Just don't rush into a decision.  Look around and kick some tires so to speak.  And have fun.

As long as you consider that the 4 iron may be difficult to hit at your handicap and that you may be better served with a hybrid in its place. I don't know if you have the option of dropping that club for a discount.

You should also consider that the $500 price point for a set of irons brings in a lot of other options if you were so inclined. For instance, you could get Taylormade's Speedblades or SLDRs for that price. Lots of other well-reviewed sets as well. And you might be able to tailor your set to your needs of hybrids / woods better.

Oh I'm using a 4 iron pot head. What makes you think I wouldn't?? I can stripe a 4 iron 210 yards Spicoli.

Take it easy man. No need for name calling. I believe he was just speaking from experience. Most golfers with your stated handicap replace their four and sometimes their five irons with hybrids.

I only drive about 180, but I make up for by not hitting my wedges well.

They feel like butter soo far. The ball just seems to explode off of the face upon impact with a nice high and straight ball flight.
