I find myself getting better shots lately with a little choking up on almost all of my weapons. I am not opposed to that at all.

The other day, when I had nothing else entering my mind, I was wondering if it were better to either have clubs shortened 1/2 - 3/4 inch or simply choke up. Not that I am planning to alter my clubs anytime soon, though I will be getting a new driver in the next few months.

I understand with a longer shaft, you have the ability to pick up a little more club speed. I am using senior shafts as it is.  And, I have gotten used to where I now place my grip.  So I am not planning to not choke up or shorten the shafts. (1/4 to 1/2 inch choke)

I was just sitting at a table where I heard a very heated debated of full length vs shorter shafts vs choking up.  I was just amazed at the vociferous if not ungentlemanly "discussion".

Should I be concerned with this at my driver fitting?

If it ain't broke, why fix it? If you're satisfied with your results from choking up, then I see no reason to shorten any clubs. Choking up and simply swinging a shorter club can feel different and you may not see the same results after you permanently alter your clubs. I'm using "you" in the general sense, here.

At least mention it to your fitter. I'm sure he or she will notice it anyway, but if they have the ability for you to test out different shaft lengths, it would be worth exploring.

I recently posted a video about this idea of cutting down vs. choking down on youtube. Basically showed the difference in weights, both static and SW. Only other issue to be concerned with is the grip diameter being smaller when gripping down the shaft.

The Golf Pride MCC+4 grip has less taper and could work for choking down.
