You could resurrect Sparky.   But then again, Detroit would want him too.

Best baseball nickname ever, “Sparky”!

It’s tough for the Reds to compete with the larger market teams. Unless they get really good talent from their farm system, they can’t field a great team without spending a lot. That’s the sad reality of baseball.

I agree 100%. I watched the Indians dump payroll this off-season and now they can't score any runs. Unfortunately in baseball winning is a direct result of the payroll.

After some of the Reds' off-season moves, there actually was a sense of optimism going into the season. People were pretty jacked after the win on opening day.

Then SPLAT.

The entire top of the order, Winker, Votto, Puig, Suarez, is off to a terrible start. They wasted some pretty decent pitching the last two days.

Well, lets consider a few things. First of all 60% of the Indian's starting rotation was injured and out of the lineup at one time this year. Jose Ramirez has been in a slump since last August. Thank God this is Jason Kipnis' last year with the team, as he has fallen off a cliff. Encarnacion is no longer a Mariner. He just got traded to the Yankees. Carlos Santana fills that role just fine. Yan Gomes is playing a fill in role for the team he got traded to.

About the only Indians "salary dump" I had an issue with was Brantley.. But you can understand the Indians thinking, considering how often Brantley has been out with injuries the past few years.

And why wouldn't the Indians dump salary? I'm sure they are tired of spending money only to see the fans NOT show up! They've had the best won/lost record in the majors for the last 6 years, and won their division and gone to the playoffs, including the World Series, in the last 3 years, and they can't get out of 21st place in attendance!

And yet, when you ask those who chant the "Dolan is cheap" mantra if they've been to a game lately, they say no! If you ask them why not, they complain about the money! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

As boogie said, small market teams need to have excellent scouting and good minor league systems. Even the Yankees do that now! How else could you explain their record despite all their injuries? Back when old man Steinbrenner was running the team he didn't give a crap about the farm system! He'd just blow a bunch of money on another free agent. That's not the case any more.

Nice little 3 game win streak for those C-Reds after beating Verlander and the Astros last night.

Winker, Votto and Suarez finally have those batting averages creeping towards respectable, but it still seems a struggle for this team to score runs on too many nights.

Probably the biggest accomplishment that can reasonably be hoped for is .500.

Was Castillo any good against the Brewers? Nice to see them get three out of 4 against Milwaukee.

Crazy that the team is 41-44 but only 3.5 games out of first place. At this rate, it's going to make the trade deadline a funny time for management.

    • Day 34 (14 Dec 25) - Got outside for a few moments to work on bump and runs with the 4h (again using the exaggerated weight shift reminder of the left (lead) heel). Finding that it helps keep the downswing arc extended.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
