I think when most people hit the range, they tend to start with the wedges and work their way up. At least, that is how I do it. Sometimes I don’t have time to hit the range or even the putting green before the first tee after work however, and in those circumstances I’ve found it dramatically helps to take a few practice swings on the tee box with my wedge before pulling out the big stick. I tend to hit it a lot straighter and eliminate any feeling I’m going to slice just by doing this. Sometimes when the driver gets out of wack, I’ll do this on later holes as well. Any thoughts why this is or others that have noticed something similar?

Been there, and done exactly the same thing as the OP.

I warm up with the shorter clubs. Once warmed up, I graduate to the longer clubs.

When playing, and my driver swing goes south (or is it north? I forget) I start going with shorter clubs to help keep the next shot more playable.

I have always thought that shorter clubs are more controllable, and consistent with the golfer's natural swing.

I don't do this, but maybe I should.   Shorter clubs are much easier to control, and thus, much easier to groove the swing path you are looking for.

My instructor told me to always work your way up to driver from wedges when practicing.

I tend to do worse when I go to the range before playing. But I have the Sklz swing trainer and I give that a few swings before I tee off.

Its about warming up by stretching the muscles progressively from shorter to longer.

Also, grooving in the tempo from slower to faster.
