Grass On Iron Face

Does anyone know why a circle patch of grass gets stuck on the club face of irons ? The grass is in the middle of the face. Is this a good thing or bad ?

Grass gets stuck between the ball and the clubface, and gets squished.

How does that happen on a shot where you hit ball first ? I am making ball first contact when this happens.

 There’s grass growing behind the ball. More likely than not in the rough… 

It’s also possible that a practice swing left a little bit of grass on the ball and your actual swing contacted the ball with the grass already on the club

Is this happening in the fairway or rough? Also, depending on your angle of attack, you could be brushing the grass before the ball.

Contact ball first is more for hitting the little ball before the big ball, not really in regards to having grass get between the ball and the clubface.

I noticed it from a fairway. I've been working on shallowing the club out so that makes since. These fairways aren't the tightest of lies. I will pay closer attention next time I go out.

You are either brushing the grass a little before hitting the ball, or for sure after hitting the ball.  That, or perhaps there was some debris left on the ball prior to club contact. Maybe some debris was left on the club face from the last swing.

I clean my clubs after every swing which includes practice swings. 

Grass and other debris on a club face, is a pretty normal occurrence in any golf swing. Even with balls tee'd up, there can be debris left on the club face.
