So the big question I have:

At what point do you consider somebody to be:
a) Very consistent at their handicap;
b) Average consistency for their handicap; or
c) Inconsistent for their handicap?

Dent, look at your GHIN page, take the 10 "unused scores", look at the diff. on the right (which calculates the round in accordance with rating/slope), and find the average. Then multiply by 0.96.

Ah: my Anti Handicap is 11 Thanks Sandman! As far as your question, do you mean for us to give you a handicap number in which I think someone is consistent etc?

I'm so glad you posted that. I was starting to think I was the only one that had an anti-handicap that was that high!!

Index: 0.3 Anti-Index: 6.9 Turns out my anti-handicap went down four or five points as of this last revision (today). I guess that is a good thing...

I think most anti-handicaps are supposed to be high, because its taking your worse scores. I wouldn't worry about it being Six Strokes over your handicap :P

No Dent, I mean at what point would the differential be consistent?

Your handicap is the same as mine, but you're anti-handicap is much better than my anti-handicap. I would interpret that as you being a more consistent player at your handicap (for whatever reason, maybe you play the same course frequently while I do not have a home course, maybe you have been playing at a 7 longer than I have, etc...).

And yes, your anti-handicap should be higher than your regular handicap. But how much higher? My uncle is a 7 handicap, and regularly kicks my ass, so I calculated his antihandicap and it is only a stroke worse than his handicap. So when he plays, he is always right at his handicap. But when I play, my good rounds are at my handicap, but my bad rounds can get pretty ugly.

1. 2.5
2. 5.2
3. 2 or 3 years.
4. Not much change. Depending on the time of year it ranges from 0.5 to 3.0.

The consistency question is tough and is highly dependent on both the player "streakiness" and their handicap level.

I do not have a home course anymore either. I have actually only been around a Seven for about 2 months. It takes me a very long time to get my handicap down. So basically your Anti-Handicap is your level of consistency?

Your handicap is what you do in your top 50% of rounds. Your anti-handicap is what you do in your worst 50% of rounds. So if your bad rounds are closer to your good rounds, I think that would show your consistency.

I am from Australia and so I don't actually have an anti-handicap but I used your formula and I calculated that my handicap would be 5.8 and my anti-handicap would be 10.4.

How many people out there are "good" handicaps vs. your 10 lowest scores and your 10 highest scores look like they were played by different species of golfers?

Here are mine.

My index is 10.9 for now, but I wish that I didn't have a 20 stroke range between my highest and lowest!!!

It really does speak more to potential than average round!

Just curious how many people can keep it tight vs. all over the place like me.

Mine looks similar. Honestly, yours didn't look that bad except for a couple of big scores. Those will happen to us.

1) Handicap Index: 11.2
2) Anti-Handicap: 17.8
3) Just since the last revision.
4) Ended last season at this exact number (11.2). Earlier this year I was up to a 12.8, now I've gone down the last 3 revisions back to 11.2.

5 scores from earlier this year from a golf trip to MB, all in the 90's. They are killing my anti-handicap! LOL

Right now I'm a 0.9 and a 3.2.

Interesting.

So my handicap is 10.8

my anti-handicap is 17.1.

That's way too big of a difference for me. I look forward to the time where there ar just 1-2 strokes difference between the two (as long as it's not like 2.5 and 2.7 NOT 25 and 27 LOL)

    • True, true. I should do that. He really did go off during that run, I remember now. Appreciate the context.
    • I am pretty sure it is this. Word probably got around. The reports coming out now is that he bombed some interviews, and when pressed about it during the interview just basically had a horrible response. His attitude is crap. There are stories about him throwing his players under the bus at Colorado. I get it, he's not playing behind the best O-Line or have the best weapons (outside of Travis Hunter). That is bad leadership, bad attitude.  Also, it could be his dad as well. Who would want Prime Time chattering.  Go watch the playoff run. Four top 10 teams. He was elite. The Penn State game happened with our starting left guard shifting to left tackle and going up against the 3rd pick in the NFL draft. He had two big mistakes early. The pick, which looked to be a defensive play call to trap that RPO quick out, and then the fumble off his knee. He won the game besides that.
    • Day 2: Speed training session
    • Yea I admit too I had more of a 2nd round evaluation on him, where I wrote in my notes "Maybe Geno Smith" after watching a couple games. Too many screens, too many sacks, awkward throwing motion at times, low velocity at times. Too low. At other times though I thought he made some nice throws, hence why I thought he should've probably gone around round two. So to me the free fall is surprising to an extent, but of course, it all makes sense now that he's still sitting there. He probably bombed his interviews too, and I know almost nothing of his personality. I love sports betting, hence why I love following this stuff, but there's only so much I can know from the outside looking in. But yea, my 2nd round guess was smart to an extent, but also bad now that he's still on the board and it's pick 4.17 at the moment. I see. Thanks for the take, I know you watch every game of theirs.  I just watched some of the Penn State game and can see both the upside and why he's still available. But I can get on board as well that Howard has more upside than Sanders too. Tougher competition, showed some growth from K-State to Ohio State.  I guess the question marks with Howard are processing and accuracy. Yea especially for us as fans. We don't get to interview these guys or talk to their college coaches to get a better idea of what they'll be like to work with everyday. We don't know who will end up being more durable and whose body will just naturally break down over the next few years. Some guys are great talents who go to terrible situations too, who are poor system fits in failed regimes. Other guys hit the jackpot with the perfect role on a great team in a weak division. There are so many variables.
