John Daly..another good round (4 under)..hes now slipping in to contention for the Wyndhams!

I am surprised---every round was lower than the previous one----70-67-66, and he is tied for 35th.

I can see John getting his game back in shape. He really needs to re evaluate his life, but he's got the game.

You know---sometimes, we give up on someone, and then they surprise us because "someone else" NEVER gave up on him or her. If the "Man upstairs" gave up on people whenever they took the low road, how many of us would ever survive? I saw John Daly at a Skins Game at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in upstate New York in 2005 with Arnie, Natalie Gulbis, and Kix Brooks (who WON the Skins Game, by the way). JD was funny, played well, and was excellent with the fans. He and the King played from the back tees, while Natalie and Kix played from the whites. During the warmup, he did his usual practice of hitting wedges using only his left hand, and talked about rhythm and "touch". People forget that he does have an excellent short game.

I wish him well. When he is "straight", he can play and people love to come out and watch him. Last year, he was the BIG DRAW at the Turning Stone Resort Championship, won by Steve Flesch. JD played 7 holes on Thursday, and pulled one of his "withdrawals for health reasons". He had by far the biggest galleries for the pro-am on Wednesday and for the first day of the tournament. One of the main reasons that the attendance figures turned out disappointing for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is because no BIG DRAW was there (no Tiger, Phil, or JD). He is "good for the Tour", and it would be nice to see him get straightened out.

Sure his problems are all self inflicted and yet I can't but help feel sorry for the guy. What a waste of his God-given talents. I guess you've got to take the good with the bad.

of course daly is toast. he wont win on tour anymore. to do that you must make a cut first and also not wd most of the time.

First, I think there are more important stories on the PGA Tour than JD. Second, he is like a lightening rod, and still gets attention, and has many fans who are pulling for him. It is interesting somewhat to talk about him, but he did have a good tournament, but I would rather talk about Carl Petterssen, or better yet, Scott McCarron.

I'll try to say this without yelling, but I'll have to use bold:

then don't post in a John Daly thread.

Looks like he gave a full effort, glad to see that. He started in Hawaii playing hard (missed the cut because of the new cut rule of course), then plays good at the end of the year. The rest of the year was a trainwreck of course.

Hopefully his worst year (2008) on and off the course is complete. He did ok at the PGA last week , just MC by one stroke.

I wish him the best. Here is a quick story as to why he drew the biggest gallery at the pro-am and the first round of last year's Turning Stone Resort Championship. I followed him both days. On Wednesday, an older couple and I were right by the ropes on the tee for the 8th hole, about 430 yards long. Big John was on the tee and was puffing away at a cigarette, talking to his group and some of the gallery. Finally, the woman had enough. "When is he going to hit the ball?" she asked sternly. "Mam, Mr. Daly is waiting for the group in front of him to get out of the way," replied the Marshall. "Out of the way? They are almost on the green!" she snapped back. John flicked his cigarette away, stepped up, and smashed the drive. It was a sound like no one else produced that day. "My God," she exclaimed, "Where did it go? I could NOT follow it." "Mam, he is short of the green by only 70 yards or so," the Marshall responded. "Oh, my God, he did have to wait, didn't he?" Big John still amazes people. They love to watch him.

John did well to make the cut, but faltered slightly in the final round in my view because he lacks match fitness and has not been in that position for a while. Everyone has to start somewhere and i can't wait to see him make another cut. His schedule says he's playing in the Tour Championships but i can't see how he'll be there. Next event is the Valero Texas Open on your side of the Atlantic.

You are right. He is very much out of shape and needs to start working out. After all, he is a professional Tour Player, and needs to be in good physical condition.

JD is not toast.

Dude, he is.

He may be able to pull a good round out of his sphincter once every two months or so, but he needs to have a top ten finish. Or even a top 20, or a maybe just a top 30... you get my drift. He's a lost cause unless he gets some help, and is ready to be helped.

Tommy Armour 845cs Silverbacks 5-PW

Ditto. Seriously, some people've gotta wake up.

i just saw Elvis too.

Yes, I saw him too at the Ryder Cup in the gallery.

JD -2 on the round today, -9 overall and T19. I like my toast burnt, with bacon and 3 eggs over medium. Big Man is playing some golf. Hopefully he shoots lights out and gets a top 10.
