Pretty amazing for a $500 box. Close enough for me.

I'm a long time flight-simmer and have MSFS on my PC with yoke, throttles, pedals, etc.  Pretty much built my current setup around flight simming (though my daughter does some gaming and takes advantage of the hardware!).  Got the max version day of release last August and have really enjoyed it.

There's a "friend" system built-in.  I haven't really used it (one random person with "Bama" in their name friended me)--but would love to fly with any of you guys.  Add me as a friend when you can.  My MSFS profile name is "THEBAMABRUIN".  I fly several times a week, mostly at night...or when it's rainy outside.  So catch me online, or message me here to link up.  Since my kiddo regularly uses my rig, I'll commandeer her sweet headset and we'll go for a fly somewhere cool. ;-)

How does that work, you fly side by side?

I'm still getting the hang of keeping the plane steady. You have to be really gentle with the controller sticks. I think I wore out the batteries stalling, making the controller rumble.

I actually haven't done it, yet.  Used to be in the Traffic menu, there was a section to see online multiplayers or friends--but I haven't been in that menu in months.  I think then you can just get together and decide on a place to spawn, and you'll see one another and can possibly chat on headset.  Not sure if more is needed for the chat piece.  I know I can see my one random friend's online status and his scores on the landing challenges.  Maybe there's some option to "find" them in the sim?  I'll look more into all the multiplayer stuff tonight.  But friend me if you want, and we'll see if we can figure it out.

I don't have it on my XBox...pretty limited space on that guy these days.  But, yeah, I bet it'd drain controller batteries like crazy if it's constantly rumbling.  Not sure how much flying, or sim-flying you've done, but if you're just starting out, maybe some of the AI-assist options around trim and power/mix control could help.  The training items seem to be pretty informative, too.

Tying it into golf, I've checked out a bunch of famous courses...everything in the Monterrey peninsula area, a lot of the UK, Bandon, etc.  I usually start at some random city, then pick a course I want to 'play', takeoff, find the course and give it a flyover, then land at the nearest airport in a little 'pretend mission' like I'm going on a golf buddy trip in my private plane. ;-).  Then next time, takeoff from there and pick the next course.  I just made the hop from northern Ireland over to the west coast of Scotland a few nights ago.  In that part of the world, if you enable live weather, it can turn into a real challenge in smaller planes.

Yes, I'm going to go through all the tutorials. I also started the flight plan to look at Cabot Cliffs in Nova Scotia, but it was too late. Let me get the hang of everything and I'll check out the mutlitplayer. MSFS has already used up 100 GB I suspect it'll get to 200GB.

I flew over Cabot Cliffs and Southport and the rendering of these courses was really poor. Guessing you have to find the courses where specific work was done to make them look realistic.

Bought the New Zealand scenery addon. Not many scenery addons available for Xbox version, like 2 or 3. Outside of the marketplace there are tons for the PC. Have flown over a number of cities and am kind of disappointed in the lack of detail despite downloading all the updates. Going to tackle the passenger jet tutorial, always wondered what it's like flying one of those things.

    • Day 126: another busy day, so just did some mirror work. Checking set up and backswing and working on a few downswing feels.
    • Day 310 - Working on my follow-through. Higher chest, belt towards the target. Small swings at first, building to a fuller swing (still not thrilled with my short backswing).
    • Day 201 (19 Nov 24) - Walked the back nine at Minnesott today, played the “white” tees with the persimmon woods and bladed irons.  It’s a challenge I really like as the clubs are shorter in overall distances.  It really forces me focus on the value of the approach game.     Somehow yesterday’s post did not load / so it’s above.  Today (Day 202) I did some backyard short yardage work - 7i dink  and rolls, 9i chips and 50deg pitches - working to get it in before the rain started around noon.
    • Day 51 - 2024-11-20 Played nine holes of Sanctuary Moon with a 6I while pausing in the backswing and otherwise just practicing. If you're into Star Wars, or don't actively hate it… this is worth checking out.
