I'm not sure if this is the right forum so if it's not, my apologies.

I was reading the GHIN Advanced Stats thread and unless I'm mistaken, GameGolf keeps the same stats.  Anyway, I've been playing around with the insight feature and wondered for those who have GameGolf how they utilize it.  I just started playing around with it and use the Strokes Gained feature to see my rounds against scratch golfers, my last round vs. last 3 rounds, and my last round against what GG says is my HC.

I was just curious who else uses this feature and what they've found the best way to use it is to improve.

I use the summary of Tee Shots, Approach, Short Game, and Putting strokes gained as a basic barometer of how I played.  But I don't think the implementation beyond that is as helpful as Game Golf wants it to be.

I'll look at those "Smart Tips", but I don't take everything exactly to heart as it says.  When it says you could "improve 1.5 strokes from tee shots on holes 350-400 yards", that doesn't really help me too much.  I know I need to hit straighter and further drives.  The specific length of the hole is irrelevant and makes me question whether the algorithm programmed to develop those insights is actually highlighting the most helpful things.  I'd much rather be able to see strokes gained on an individual shot basis and sort through it myself.  But I'm also a nerd.

And further, the strokes gained for short game and putting are only going to be as accurate as the pin placements set for each hole.  So again, its fine I think to use as a general indicator, but I don't use it as the entire story of where I need to focus to improve.  Your LSW book probably does a better job of that.

After each round, I always compare my round vs my last 10 rounds.   A snap shot of one round vs another does very little except maybe to boost an ego.    The data (Insights) that is provided has definitely defined my problem areas but once defined, it takes the dedication to practice properly to improve.

I also compare my last 10 rounds vs 10 handicap.

Why do you use those two barometers?

I think using your last 10 rounds is a good way to see how your game has been trending, larger sample sizes typically minimize the effect that outliers have on your overall results. If you had 5 straight rounds of 36+ putts but then your most recent round was 31 putts, your putting still probably needs some work/extra attention.

For choosing which handicap group to compare to, I typically choose one group better than where my handicap is. When I was a 7-10 handicap, I would compare my stats to the 5 handicap group so I knew how I compared to people that were slightly better than me. Now that I am a 3 handicap, I use scratch as my comparison point.

Ok, thanks for explaining.  It makes a lot of sense.

I guess the way I look at it for myself - I know that my full swing is what I should spend most of my time concentrating on (but which I have difficulty finding time to consistently do) and that my short game is really inconsistently bad but I never practice to improve it because of a lack of practicing time available to me at the range..

    • Day 105: mirror work today. Focused on not looping my hands at the top of the swing. Straight down.
    • Still working on the backswing a bit. Hand still gets away from the body, out towards the ball, and at A2 the club wants to roll over and get flat at A3. It's just very difficult to shallow from that position like I want. Which makes my downswing work impossible.  Backswing I have been playing around with the left leg straightening to start the backswing. It's like, a slight shove of the hips right with the left leg. Then just keep the flex in the right knee as I turn into it. I kind of like it. I never had a good swing trigger. It helps keep my left knee extended.  Yea, definitely feeling the hand path is traveling down the feet line, and straight up. A little bit of wrist rotation, and a lot more hinge sooner in the right wrist and elbow. I am trying to get the feeling that the arm hinging up then is the cause for the right shoulder to retract to finish the backswing. Club feels much more vertical at A3. I am trying to have my wrist fully hinged by then.  Feel the club and arms stop at A3.5 (my A4). If my arm collapses late, then I turn into that and I am pretty much screwed. The club and arms kind of have a floaty feeling, where they are just suspended in air for a bit, then drop.  Downswing I have been trying to think of a good visual for this mentally. I like the idea of my hands taking a wide arc to my right pocket, or I am taking the back of the hosel and trying to hit the ground behind my right foot.    Left knee stuff, just sooner.
    • Day 78 - 2026-03-10 Backswing work at the net with foam balls, a few real ball swings.
    • Day 525 - 2026-03-10 Got some work in before lessons today (was going to play after but it decided to POUR). Then like three minutes in later on.
    • Day 2 (10 Mar 26) - Worked on weight shift feel using slap stick drill (hands about 6” apart - coming back weight on trail foot - down - thru weight on lead foot….moved it to hitting chips w/9i playing what I call “leap frog” - hit 1st about 10yds, the next a couple past the 1st, for about 6 balls total.  Love it as the lies change, the distances vary making each swing slightly different.
