Am Senior Player coming back from long layoff. Have a Big Bertha Driver and irons 5-AW.

My son in law is a huge Callaway fan and gave a me gift certificate for a  Callaway Driver/FW wood.

Am looking at the Mavrik FW wood but a little concerned I am not yet ready for the club

Feedback appreciated

You know you could give the new Callaway Big Bertha B21 FW a look. You can get it with a lightweight 45g shaft. It's supposed to be a little easier to hit than the Mavrik. It might be similar to the Mavrik Max. For a senior player you might try the 5W version of both and see which one you like better.

Add... if you have a slow swing speed and flexibility issues you might check the 7W version instead of the 5W.

I agree, getting out and trying them is your best bet. Pretty much every club made by major OEMs is going to be really good at this point, so without knowing anything about your swing or delivery, it's hard to say whether you would be a good match for a certain club. Find somewhere you can hit them both and figure out which one you prefer in terms of feel/looks/performance.

I'd go hit a few with a fitter or a golf pro. I like the idea of a 5FW, personally. But I have a friend who hits his 4HY farther than I can hit my 5FW. And in truth my Miz Fli-Hi's are probably better for me than the FW. Anyway, go hit a few, realize you are probably better at golf than you think and get the most club you and a fitter think you can handle. Otherwise, can I have the gift certificate? Best, -Marv
