I have never posted on this forum before so I apologize if this has been asked before. I coming back to the game of golf after several years away. I have been replacing my clubs I've had for several years. I have never really used hybrids before and have been trying to decide if I need the two I have or just one of them. I currently have an 18 degree snake eyes 2 iron hybrid with graphite shaft and a 20 degree nickent 3 iron hybrid with a steel shaft. I'm trying to decide if having both of these clubs is necessary. Or should I take one out?

Welcome to TheSandTrap!

As to which clubs to use, you probably need to see how far you hit each of those, as well as the remainder of your clubs.  You might find that you have "duplicate distances" with two clubs, in which case you could certainly take one out of the bag.  If you need one less club at the long end of the bag, you can add in an additional club at short end of the bag, as one possibility.

If you’ve never used hybrids before, it might be good to try one to see if they work for you.  Some find that hybrids have a tendency to hook the ball too often. If so, it might be better to stick with a 5 wood and/or long irons.

The Nickent was a great club back in the day!

When I switched to the Adams Idea Pro Gold I went with the 2H 18* and eventually bought a 3H 20*. On a pure strike they were about 12-15 yards apart. I found that I could get away with just the 2H and take some off if I needed to get the 3H distance. The club was so versatile and easy to work that I put the 3 iron back in the bag for a more piercing shot if I needed it, especially into the wind.  I don't think I ever missed it.

You should probably ditch one, but as another has said it might depend on how far you hit them. I would also add that you should look at what is on the other side of these clubs. Do you have a 15* 3W or a 3i?

I had been carrying a 19* 3h and a 22* 4h. They represent a 20 yard gap, which is good for me. My 15* 3W goes about 25 yards farther than the 3h. This gap works for me. on the other end I have a 5i, which has a 15 yard gap to the 4h. That is a little big for me. I may take my 4h out and put my 4i back in. All will depend on what course I play and where the pins might be on longer par 3s.

Maybe your 2h works as your fairway wood?

    • Um... The Browns? ... hmm.... I really don't have any issue at all with the Shedeur Sanders pick in Round 5. If he doesn't work out, fine. It's a fifth round pick on a quarterback, no big deal.  What I'm fascinated by is the Dillon Gabriel pick in round 3. I heard a lot of folks said that Gabriel might not get drafted at all. Seems like they could have waited and still got him if they wanted him.  What I'm already sick of is people saying the Browns have 5 quarterbacks. They don't. Watson won't play in 2025 due to his torn Achilles. Ideally, he won't play in 2026. But they can't cut him. They will actually have to pay more against the cap if they cut him than if they just lock him in somebody's basement and forget about him. Think about this. In the last two seasons The Browns have had 6 games where their QB has thrown for over 300 yards. ... None of them were named Deshaun Watson. Three 300 yard games by geriatric Joe Flacco and 3 by mentally unstable, Jameis Winston. ... Including Winston's almost 500 yards against the Broncos.  Deshaun Watson sticks out loud! I'm hoping he never suits up again. The Browns can just pay him for the next 3 years and then maybe he'll go away. (73 Mil against the cap in both 2025 and 2026. And then 27 Mil against the cap in 2027... sheesh.)  So, The Browns currently have 4 quarterbacks, not 5. I'm not sure any of them are worth a pile of rat droppings. But if not, they got 2 first round picks next year. Then in 2028 Watson's contract will finally come off the books and they can stop paying that waste of a uniform and move forward with whom ever ends up behind center.
