It would for many. When I'm 100yds out from the green as opposed to 150 out, I have a tendency to make better contact. Closer shots are generally easier.

That may be true for you but I find that poor contact (shanks, fats and thins) is distance agnostic. Several have said it and I agree - play the tees that make you the happiest while allowing a good pace of play.
