I'm a lead aircraft mechanic for a major US airline.  I work in what's called "line maintenance,"  When you have a pilot say that the mechanics are working on the plane at the gate, that's my guys out there bending the wrenches.  As I lead, I handle administrative functions such as schedules, payroll, and training, along with ordering parts, being a point of contact for pilots, and other divisions within the airline.  Sometimes, they let me out to work on airplanes too.

I’m responsible for cyber security at a video game company.

Sounds interesting & hard given the constant hacking attempts.

the thing that amazes me is how many steps I need to go through to  access the corporate system I have access to yet hackers can defeat safeguards of major companies & governments that should have top notch security,

I think it's more making it a 1 in 1 million type of event versus a 1 in 100 type of event.

So I’m new here and I’m a LTL truck driver. I’ve been playing since I was 4 and my dad (professional) has taught me since then. I’m not scratch and probably never will be since I have 4 kids, 2 grandkids and 5… yes 5 nieces and nephews. Time doesn’t allow me to play as much as I need to to be better and I’m ok with it. I hope to meet a lot of you and if you’re in arky, holler at me.

I worked in finance for 20 years in Switzerland, now I run a luxury tour operator in Colombia and I actually offer custom-made golf trips throughout the country. I've always been close to golf (my dad and some close friends play) but I just started to learn. This week I played my first 9-hole course and I'm excited to get better!

Welcome!

You're WAY too young!  You should have to wait until you can only hit your driver 280.

This reminds me, I'm not a retired geotechnical engineer.  My new career as volunteer golf rules official typically pays me a ham sandwich and a soft drink, but its more fun.

    • Day 27 - 2026-01-16 Played 18 with some of the usual "too many voices" going on when I'm working on swing stuff. Fun to get out in great bay area winter weather.
    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
    • No one in the world is as smart as Phil thinks he is.
    • Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.
