Howdy everyone on The Sand Trap. My name is Ron and I am new to this site. (actually I was on here for about 2 seconds a year ago but did not maintain my attendence!) I have a dear friend (subpar) who introduced me to this site a while back and now that I am back, I look forward to reading all of the interesting topics on this site. I am a Golf Instructor, (as I'm sure there are many on here) in the Los Angeles area. I hope to meet everyone and I look forward to interacting with my fellow golfnutz! I'm sure everyone on this site is as crazy about this game as I am.

I'm sure (I will try my best not too) I will make mistakes in posting and chatting so feel free to set me straight should I get out of line or do something that is not protocol.

Security Manager in Lower Manhattan, mostly access control. Can't view the TST from work. So it's either I'm off, or weekends when I get to view the site.

I work at Duke University as an "Accounting Specialist" in the Auxiliary Services department, which handles all of the Universities money that's not related to tuition, grants etc. Everything from parking, to concessions from sports events, to the dining units on campus. I'm currently using their employee tuition reimbursement program to get an accounting degree.

    • As I understand it, the score is considered "returned" when the 15 minute period has elapsed AND the player has left the scoring area.  That's the way I read the abbreviated explanation you quoted, but I haven't read the complete official wording.   I don't know the details of the "scoring system" or what it means by the score being "validated".  As you and I both know, its the detailed wording of the rule that matters, not the press release summarizing the changes.  This complication is one reason I'd resist making the change, rules in general should be as simple as possible, and this change makes it much more complicated in my mind.   That it happened to a "star" is what made it important to them.  If it happens to a nobody, there would be no change.  Or if it happened to a "villain", think Patrick Reed before he left for LIV, nobody would care.  Its not "who often", its "who".
    • Right when you sit on the toilet.
    • Matt, all of the above requirements to certify the scores and steps of any changes still stand. A DQ is very much in effect for not meeting any of them after the 15 extra minutes to use an honest eraser (EDIT: with the marker's agreement) if necessary.
    • for me it depends on several things: how much fringe there is (if less than 3-4 ft, i usually putt) the length of grass off the green (if tightly mown, putt > chip) how smooth the fringe is (if bumpy--CHIP!) how much run out i need on the green. Either way i read it like a putt once the balls on the green. If chipping I find my landing spot and read the roll out to the hole from there. That said, I love the creativity the short game demands.
