I've searching for a new putter.
This question came to my mind after seeing so many people have a Cameron in their bag.
What are the real advantages other than it looks awesome and feels soft due to the soft carbon steel it's made from?

on the greens that most amateurs play - there is no advantage.

A good putting stroke and ability to read the line and pace are far more important than what the putter/putter face is made of.

The golf manufacturers do a great job at convincing us that one putter rolls better than others - AGSI Rossa and YES for example. And some people here will tell you their Scotty or "insert putter here" rolls nicely. I'm sure they do.

It ain't the arrows, it's the Indian. But Scottys do look good in the bag! And if it makes you practice a little more because you're in love with the club - go for it :) I know - i've been there! My love affair ended with SC last year :(

I have no idea what the difference in performace is between a milled and a smooth faced putter..or a cast putter vs a milled one.. i guess its mostly mental..

The goal for the milled face is to offer a perfect flat surface on the stick

Well, according to F2, you need their putter because the insert puts more material on the ball for a truer roll.

I'm still using my old Slotline.

I've said it once and I'll say it again......I miss just as many 2 footers w/ my $230 Never Compromise, as I do w/ my $20 Ray Cook....

Marketing, Marketing, Marketing.....these guys are good at telling us we need a certain putter.

Bottom line buy what you want, all putters are equal IMO.
This is somewhat irrelevant but, I didn't buy a Cameron because like you said everyone has one. Most people buy them because they are the "in" thing. I have never been this type of person so why start now.

Theoretically there is no differene between a milled putter and a cast putter. The difference lies in the material that the putter is made from. The softer carbon steel of a milled putter typically provides a softer "feel"(feel in reality has been shown to be strictly related to the sound that the club produces at impact) which is the main reason someone would go with a milled putter. Neither cast nor milled putters have a "flatter" face, and milling lines DO NOT provide a truer roll. That is just a marketing hype.
