@iacas I’m not offended that you, or anyone, disagrees.  And for the record, my statement regarding fear not existing in golf (barring wildlife) was facetious.  And of course there is physical fear in some sports, but that wasn’t my argument (someone else made the Bettis example, I.e. physical fear).  I think it’s pretty rare for elite pro athletes to fear competition (other than rookies or bottom barrel).  Lebron has stated guys trash talk him, which everyone feared doing with MJ (and learned their lesson real quick if they did).  It takes someone like an MJ, Tiger, Tyson for the majority of athletes in that sport to have that fear.

Tiger, sure.  Jack, sure.  BK, nope.

I’m sure this would just continue to go in a circle at this point, I’m good chalking it up to we disagree.

And again… Brooks is playing at a Tiger-like level in majors.

Fear of loss is well studied in sports. Your opponent can have a big influence into how amplified that gets. Knowing the history of a golfer, especially in majors, is a bit variable in how you will expect the final round to turn out. It could go from thinking you need to shoot even par to going much lower. This type of fear, is defined as a fear by the psychological field. There is no way to say it isn't a fear.

I do think Brooks instills that fear into a lot of golfers. Maybe not someone like Rory or Rahm, but he can put immense pressure on a golfer.

Rahm T50, Scheffler T2, Spieth T29, McIlroy T7, Finau T72, etc… none of that was because they feared BK in the PGA Championship.

I’m not rejecting how good BK is.  But I don’t believe he’s feared.

Except you ignore a bunch of stuff that’s inconvenient to your position.

Like your list above. Did the person who finished T42 in the 2005 Masters fear Tiger? It’s not a valid point.

    • Day 20: 12/30/2024 I've been working on my swing in front of the mirror today. Spent a lot of time at slow speed, mid speed and a couple at full speed. I just came back in from the garage where I practiced my PPJ swing by hitting about 10 balls with the 6-iron into my net.
    • I'm just guessing here. But couldn't Titleist build a mini-driver with a very low center of gravity? Then it would work off the deck. The deep face wouldn't be as problematic.  I'm just spit-balling. I know nothing about this product.
    • Yea, but a deeper face makes it not as useful off the fairway. This is why the driver is not easy to hit off the fairway.  For a select few PGA Tour players, it might be good. The concept of the mini driver has been around for a long time now. Very few ever keep it in their bag. This is a guess, but probably because it sucks off the ground. Nothing here looks like it is any different than the other mini drivers of the past.  I get it from Cameron Young and Will Zalatoris point of view. They hit the ball a long way. The odds they ever hit a 3-wood off the turf is like what, a handful a times a year? They probably would hit it 98% off the tee and 2% off the ground. They probably want something that think is longer off the tee versus their 3-wood because they don't hit the 3-wood off the ground much at all.  This is where I say, Titleist claiming "worked as a go-to club off the tee and off the deck." is more marketing than something that is actually beneficial to a golfer. This is primarily for off the tee.
    • One thing I've noticed with Mini Drivers is that the manufacturers seem like they keep their quantities somewhat limited.  The last two TaylorMade Mini's and the Callaway AI Smoke Mini were sold out quickly.
    • Huh? That's the niche of these mini-drivers. They can still work off the tee and off the fairway. They're designed for and work for both things, which is all that blurb says. You can see from the photos that it's a bit of a deeper face, which I find is more important off the tee than the fairway.
