I received a call a little while ago that my mom has passed. While I'm obviously very sad, I'm glad that she is no longer in pain and can be with my dad again. I'm so happy for seeing her last week and her being aware enough to talk a little. I'll miss her so much.

Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. We talked about how you just wanted her to go peacefully given the likelihood of the outcome so I hope that she wasn't in pain too long is some consolation.

We don't really have a good emoji response for this, so please don't take the "thumbs up" as anything but condolences and a reminder of the many good memories you have of your mom.

We did and I believe she did. She was surrounded by loved ones and is with my dad now so I'll hold on to that. Thank you.

Went to the dome today to hit some balls. No video as with my mental state still being what it is I forgot my tripod. Really concentrating on keeping my backswing short and my head in the shot. I wish I had the tripod because it felt like a half swing with a slight pause and fire through. I will say on a good many shots it felt like pure center contact so I will keep drilling to ingrain this feel.

Fitness journey is going well. As of this morning I am down to 243. I reset my goal to 235 from 240 but maybe 230 is the number. We shall see.

So it's been a bit but i had to take some time to mourn my mom and some other stuff going on. I have been doing pretty well fitness wise. I broke through 240 and weighed in at 238.6. Feeling really good. I wouldn't say I'm super tough on myself with what I put in my body but I do log everything on My Fitness Pal and on the majority of days I'm under calories and pretty right on with macros (still need to be better with protein).

I went to a grass range this morning and dummy me forgot to charge my phone so I didn't get video. I went with a half swing feeling and oh my that worked well. I get feel isn't real so I'll try to get back and see what it looks like on video. Strikes felt very pure overall and distance did not seem to suffer despite a fairly strong crosswind. I'm hoping it looks as good as it felt.

So it's been a bit but things have been busy on my end. I have had a couple of range sessions lately and the first wasn't great but the last went really well. I started concentrating on just getting my shoulder behind the ball and it has made a world of difference. I think prior I had been thinking way too much over the ball but once I get my grip and setup done it's just one thought. My strikes were much more pure and distance despite a strong wind was very good.

I weighed in yesterday at 235. This journey started 2 years ago in May when I stepped on the scale and had 321 staring back at me. My knees feel so much better and feel stronger than I have in years. Not sure what weight I'll land on and try to maintain but I'm really pleased with the progress.

Almost 90 pounds, that is impressive. Well done.

Interesting day at the range today. Seemed to have zero swing (or many depending on how you look at it) and was hitting every poor shot imaginable. Finally decided to just mimic my short swings I do with my practice club for the majority of my 5 minute daily practices. That did the trick. It felt as if my backswing ended just past hip high. I felt so connected and was getting great compression on shots. Distance may have suffered a bit but if shots end up as playable as these would have been I'll take the trade off.

Went to the range today and was cursing myself when I got there as I realized I forgot my phone. I added an earlier wrist hinge to the short backswing I was using last time practicing and ball strikes were really good for the most part. I'm heading back to Boston Thursday to see friends and family and have a couple of rounds planned so I'm hoping to keep this feeling.

Yesterday morning I weighed in at 232. My goal had been 230 but maybe now it's 220. I'll have to think about that. I feel so much better without the extra 90 lbs. from 2 years ago. Still a softl slightly less protruding belly so it might be time to go hard on eating better. Work in progress.

Off to my home state of Massachusetts this morning. 9 this afternoon,  18 tomorrow,  and 18 on Saturday. Hoping for some good scores but will be just happy playing with good friends.

Played 9 yesterday at Rowley Country Club. Played a scramble format with my brother as my teammate and shot a 40 together. Wasn't good enough to beat my friends but had a great time. Had a decent few shots highlighted by a 174 yard 4 iron to 8 feet. Missed the birdie of course lol. 18 at Pease today.

Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.

Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.

Played 9 yesterday. Shot a 48 while taking an 8 on a par 3. I really need to learn damage control. For the most part I hit the ball fairly well. Driving was on point but short game was a disaster. I used 16 putts and had several really good lag putts. Keep on fighting.

226 on the scale this morning! I believe the last time I hit that I was like 19 or so. Been a while lol. My goals keep getting lower as now I am shooting for 215. Feel so much better overall compared to almost 100 pounds ago. Been a long and fruitful journey so far.

Been a bit. Have a lot going on but hope you have all been well. Came back to New Hampshire for an unexpected extended stay. Got to play 9 this morning in Topsfield, MA. Par 35 and I shot a 48 but was happy with it. Started off bogey, triple, bogey, triple, triple and thought ok, let's just enjoy playing. Was hitting driver awful but kept at it. Hit what felt like an awful drive at six only to leave me 112 to the pin from the middle of the fairway. Hit a 9 iron to 15 feet and 2 putt for par. Bogey on the next followed by a par on an uphill par 3. Hit a pulled drive on 9 but fine in the left half of fairway 143 out. Pulled 7 iron completely ignoring the fact that I had my brother's set (didn't bring mine out with me), and his 7 iron has a 27°loft. Ten feet off the back of the green which ended in bogey. 2 over for the last 4 holes which made leaving the course feel pretty good. Told myself coming up hole 5, hey how about turning your right hip back. Worked like a charm.

Played 9 yesterday at Cape Ann in Essex, MA. Played awful with maybe 4 really good shots but the course is so beautiful being right on the water it's hard to be to upset. I haven't practiced in forever so I'll need to get going on that.

Been better getting to the gym since I've been out here in NH. I came out from Minnesota for my well being so I figured I should be working on just that. Still hovering around 226 which surprises me as my sister in law feeds me quite well. Excited to be back east for the Celtics coronation. Go Celts!!!

    • Day 6: Worked with 6-iron, same stuff; neutral grip, centered turn. Feeling a bit lost right now, but have a lesson booked in about 10 days.
    • Day 222 (11 Dec 24) - weather came in about midday….son had an ortho appt mid morning….able to get in some work with the 54 and varied pitches. Used the tulip tree as the obstacle to clear….was able to work the face - normal face with the longer distances to more open with the tight short straight up and downs.
    • Great to hear!  Im trying (slowly) to get back out there and this community has been very helpful - FORE
    • Lessons.   I asked Erik this once and he said a good player could shoot a good score with less-than-adequate clubs.
    • So I have a son-in-law that I really like, and he plays.  Not great, averages 100-110 on a normal course.  For his birthday I got him a series of 5 lessons (he's never had lessons before) from a well-regarded local pro.  He hasn't started them yet.  For Christmas I am getting him a fitting and clubs from a local clubmaker with credentials and equipment out the wazoo:   And following the fitting I will be having the clubmaker make him 13 clubs (he already has a putter he really likes and putting is one of the better parts of his game).  I'll let the clubmaker and him work out how many 'woods', how many and which hybrids, how many and which irons, and how many and which wedges.  Other than paying I don't want to inject myself into the process. So my question for the board is which should happen first, the fitting/building of the clubs or the lessons?  I can see arguments on both sides and I just thought this would be a good place from which to get some input.  Thoughts?
