Knee Pain Work Arounds in Backswing

Recommended Posts

Have chronic trail knee pain. Have been to the ortho and I am not ready for miniscus surgery. Have tried TPI certified coach without success.  That's why I am considering work arounds, whether it is a set up change or something swing related that will allow a fuller backswing. I am very restricted on the backswing and can barely get the club to 3pm/half way back. I've tried dropping my trail leg back. It helps some. I was thinking of using a split handed grip swing. Any other ideas to free up the backswing?

Have you tried flaring the trail foot outward? That should allow a bit more hip turn without your knee rotating.

Yes. It helps a bit. But, it is still restricted in the backswing. Thanks.

I am a bit desparate and was even thinking of using the Faldo Pre-set drill or a similar one seen here as my regular swing.

In addition to that… you're likely putting more stress on your right knee because you sway back and your ankle starts to roll ever so slightly, and the pressure on your knee is from you trying to keep your balance and not shift/sway even further.

It appears to me I'd give you pretty much the same advice I've always given you: learn to use your lower body properly.

That means to support the turn, to keep your body more centered, and to get forward properly on the downswing.

We've also given him that advice several times in his Member Swing topic.

Check out Visco-Supplementation.   It has worked for my wife although the surgeon said eventually she'll need knee replacement.
