I guess when you distill it down, a sand trap isn’t supposed to have a golf ball in it either.

To be fair, bunkers are intended to be playable, and a bunker completely full of water isn't.  But that's why there's a Model Local Rule to address the situation appropriately.

People are talking about local committees and such which we just don’t have at our level. My league and playing partners gave the free drop with no issue. My original purpose of this post was just to understand what the “real” rule is, and I now know. But now I also want to encourage people to see that many long time golf rules are outdated and illogical, and hopefully encourage people to push for change. They made some changes in the last few years, so I’m hopeful the game I love will improve if enough people speak out.

Giving each other free drops is not golf.  And there's a whole USGA manual on the Committee.

If golf is really "the game I love", then why not learn and follow the rules of that game?

@anaveragehacker hasn't been here in nearly the two months since he posted that, likely because he didn't get the answers he wanted.

    • I have to confess. I figured somebody would grab Sanders in the second round. He isn't perfect by any stretch, but so often NFL teams reach for quarterbacks.  I only saw one Colorado Game last year and I watched it in a restaurant/pub/bar place. I have to say I thought Sanders was good. He looked accurate and his O-line was terrible. ... I mean really terrible. Kid was running for his life the second he got the ball in his hands. My thought is that quarterbacks who play behind bad O-lines in college sometimes may make better pros. They get used to having to make quick decisions, and throwing the ball with guys in their face.  A lot of folks are saying his slide is because of his dad. I'm not sure if that's true or not true. I've also heard that next year's crop of QB's is supposed to be really good, so teams feel like "Hey, let's wait until next year."
    • Day 25 - A bunch of sim golf with buddies. Contact was pretty poor, I was all over the clubface.
    • I would put money on Will having a better NFL career than Sanders. Mostly because he is a fast processor and his mental game and leadership is top notch. I think that translates better.
    • Day 279: chipped for a while with my net. Worked mostly on lower chips. Contact was crisp - feeling good about this.
