Greetings ....

A possibility exists that four Texas events may be on the PGA Tour's 2009 Spring schedule. According to this San Antonio Express-News article , there is talk of moving the Valero Texas Open from October to May, beginning 2009. It would join Houston, Byron Nelson and Colonial as a Spring Tour Fed Ex Cup event.

The Texas Open would take the spot currently held by the AT&T; Atlanta Classic at Sugarloaf. It is speculated that the 42-year-old Atlanta event would cease to exist when AT&T; pulls out after this year's tournament. Atlanta's East Lake would still host the Tour Championship.

Speculation also hints that the Byron Nelson Classic may move up a few weeks in the schedule. The official 2009 PGA Tour schedule will be released later this year.

Of course, moving the Texas Open out of the Fall Series Schedule would open up a spot there. However, there is no information at present (that I know of) which would suggest that a new PGA Tour event would be added to the Fall schedule.

I know the Nelson is moving to either before or after the Colonial next year. This is good because it's a pain to have 2 tournaments a month apart basically within 30 minutes of each other.

Don't know about the other two because you have the Players and Memorial only a few weeks apart. They could go Players, Valero, nelson, Colonial, Houston, Memorial, but that moves the Players and Memorial each a week in the other direction.

Greetings ....

A 45-event golf tour in a 52-week year. It is quite a tight squeeze, for sure!!

The tournament in Tampa Bay, formerly sponsored by PODS, may have a life in 2009 after all. Negotiations with a new sponsor appear to be close to a resolution.
