Depends on how well my driver's behaving. If it's gone berserk I'm going to hit 3 wood off every tee. Same with the 3 wood - if it's misbehaving as well, I'll step down to a 2 iron. And if I can't hit the 2 iron, I've got problems...

On a good day, 5-7 times a round. Usually when going for par fives in two. (I leave tight holes to my 2 iron, because the 3 wood has a tendency to cut when I least need it).

3-wood: hardly ever. I carry a 4-wood and use it off the deck on longer holes, unless the wind's against in which case I may use a driver.
The 4 has a loft of about 17-18 degrees and a noticeably shorter shaft than the 3. Gives more control and without too much loss of distance - still carry it about 220 in the summer (off the tee - probably 200-210 off the deck)

I use a 3 wood several times a round. I use it off the tee more than I hit it off the ground. I hit it straight and I typically hit it as far as my buddies hit their drivers. It did take a long time for me to find a 3 wood that I could hit though. Make sure to shop around and get one that you hit well if you decide to add one to the bag.

My 3 wood tends to be my saviour. I've never been entirely comfortable with any driver I've bagged. So, I may tee off with it on every long hole. I try to hit the driver as much as I can, but if its pointless, I'll stick with the 3wood. Average 7 to 10 times a round, maybe up to 14 or more. My home course has trees lining many fairways, sometimes I use it to punch out from under tree limbs.

I use my 3 Wood a lot but I am not a good golfer and since I have no idea where my driver is going to go it is my only option on longer holes. The 3W to me is that one club in my bag that does not fail.

never ever. I have a Nike NDS 3-wood which i don't hit well at all, so i took it out of my bag and added a gap wedge. The hybrid I use surprisingly plays about the same distance, and I hit it much more consistently. I'll probably try out the new FT fairway wood, but i doubt ill buy one.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
