i do also think weight is important. I'm not sure what to do now.. so many different options and it seems like its impossible to try the results of each one first.

i should have also mentioned that i often rush with my hands and get ahead of my lower body-- aka hook the ball so i think a heavier shaft would help my tempo...

check this shaft out...

i'd rather go too stiff than not enough i think. this for sure would take me that direction

1.8 torque seems very low...

Since you have these questions, I would recommend consulting with a reputable fitter. He/she can have you hit multiple shafts, different lengths, different torques, weights, etc. This is the safest way to go as not all stiff shafts play to a stiff, some play weaker, some stronger. Better to experiment than lose some $$$.

I agree with everything said - but I just got a Titliest 907 D2 with a GD y-6 stiff flex shaft just like yours and I couldn't be happier. i swing around 97 to be average and i have a smoother tempo so that could figure in of course but just thought I would offer my two cents that i love this shaft. Also, I suspect the D2 907 is way more forgiving than the 905R - just a hunch

just for the record you are wrong. butt trimming makes a shaft flex weaker. tip trimming makes it stiffer. do some research please.

Matt, I was having some problems with my driver and took it back to my fitter. He trimmed the driver from the butt resulting in my driver playing stiffer. The shaft flex is determined by the CPMs. When I took it, it was playing 254. He did the trimming and it's playing at 260. I think I'll take the word of an extremely reputable fitter who A)did the work in front of me and B) proved it with actual numbers. As for doing my research, maybe you should read a little better. Your link clearly states that "Cutting more of the grip end will still stiffen the shaft." Moreover, Wishon states that tip trimming may not even stiffen the shaft because it depends on the makeup of the shaft, itself. How's that for doing my research?

please read

"Because all shafts are larger at the grip end and taper down to be smaller at the head end, that means the tip end is the weakest side and the grip end is the strongest side of the shaft. Therefore, cutting more of the tip will have the effect of getting rid of some of the weaker end of the shaft which, in turn, makes the shaft play and feel more stiff. Cutting more of the grip end will still stiffen the shaft a little bit, but only because in doing so you make the shaft shorter, and not nearly as much as when trimming more from the tip end."

only reason its stiffer is because it's shorter and 6 cpm is nothing tiger would even notice, i know about those also. its called a frequency test. you cannot get accurate knowledge by reading out of context.

Now, I'm reading out of context. Really? It's pretty clear where Wishon states that cutting more of the grip

will stiffen the shaft. How convenient that you left out where Wishon also states that trimming the tip may not affect stiffness at all. That it's more dependant on the construction of the shaft. Furthermore, you stated that trimming the butt makes it weaker. NOWHERE in your article does it say that. NOWHERE. I know, it's a forum and you need to flex your internet muscles. Next time, try reading your own referenced article and follow the conversation before you go and tell people that their wrong and should seek knowledge.

anyway, apart from our childish argument, if i were you i would either tip trim the shaft you have now or find a heavier shaft, and dependeding on your ball flight also one with a higher kick point. also look into torque, lower torque shafts also feel more stable.

I used to swing a YS-6 in my hiborexl. I felt the tip was too soft...it really got the ball way up in the air.
have you looked into other shafts with a stiffer tip.
I put the YS-6 into my burner 3 wood and I love that combo.

i want to bring this thread up one more time before leaving it alone- i am wondering how heavy of a shaft to get. I want to get at least an 85 gram because i like the weight feeling. Is there anything wrong with going heavier than that? i notice some shafts go up to like 100+ grams

Generally, the heavier the shaft, the lower the flight. Of course, there are many other factors involved, but this is almost always true. Usually, there is a tighter dispersion with a heavier shaft too, so if you want more control, this usually helps. Swing speed will obviously be altered too, so keep that in mind and know what SW you are comfortable with.

I believe these shafts are excellent. I have two sets in my m565 irons. I agree with the previous feedback about the Titleist drivers. Their drivers tend to be neutral - there is no draw bias.

I prefer to play all neutral clubs, and I now have a similar issue. Sometimes it is a draw - sometimes a fade. I used to hit a consistent draw (or snaphook).

Like you, I would prefer the ball consistently go one way or the other. There are so many things that can be adjusted to make this happen I don't know where to begin.

I decided to shape the ball by primarily slightly altering my stance. This works pretty well. With a slightly open stance, I get a fade most of the time. With a closed stance a draw. Please note that about 25% of the time I get something else.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
