Scotty Cameron V Odyssey White Hot's

Okay so I'm looking for a new putter, I really want a Scotty (the older one with the four coloured dots on it). But the price is probably a little to much, so I have been looking at the Odyssey White Hot XG 9 and I like that ( and a more respectable price tag).

So I was wondering is the Scotty really worth it because I could get it if I really wanted.

I think that Scotty's are in another league.
But the White Hot's are pretty good.
Too soft for me.

I've only hit a scotty cameron once and it felt really nice (good weighting and balance), but i really like the soft inserts on the white hot xg's. I got a sabertooth for my birthday a few weeks ago and I virtually eliminated all of my three putts (which used to be almost automatic). Personally, I'd go odyssey because of the soft insert and the price is much lower.

Check out www.350milled.com . I just bought my putter from these guys and it's custom built with your own designs. The material is a soft carbon steel if you like that kind of soft feel and sound. Go to www.puttertalk.com and see "reviews" for opinions on the C&L; putter. It is still pricey but better than a Cameron. It's not over priced either. Hope this helped.

It depends if you want an insert putter or not. If so, get an odyssey. if not go witht he cameron, or if you are on a budget, get a ping.

I use a ping and its an excellent putter... some people say its the best value in golf....

I was just wondering if the XG9 is considered 'A blade' putter, becuase I have seen cool odyssey head covers for sale but only for blade ones.

The 350 milled are very nice, about $285. If it was a scotty with the personalization it would be about $1200. Back to your question. Get the Scotty or a Bettinardi. Not the Mizuno but the older BB1 or BB8 if you like the newport style. Check ebay if $300 is to stiff. You can get a like new for about $200 or less.

I have the White Hot XG#1 and even though I love playing with it, I think it's time to move to a much firmer feel. It looks great, but I feel like I don't have the control or feel I want with the soft inserts. It all depends on your preference of feel and design. If it's "feel" you're looking for, Odyssey does offer the XG and the Black series where one is soft and the other firm. Whereas Scotty does not have inserts like the Odyssey putters do. I'm moving away from inserts and will soon be looking into a Scotty

If price is an issue then take a look at the Odyssey Dual Frce 2 putters, they are soft but not as soft and mushy as the white hot and since they are discontinued they are going very cheap (less than $100) just a thought

new to the forum...hello...

I have had two scottys over the last 5 years....first one i bought i figured, all the great golfers use 'em so they must be great. Putted a few rounds with them and realized one of two things:

1) I didnt make many
2) I didnt make many


so- i went to the local club and asked the pro about my experience. he watched me putt a few and said my stroke was a straight back and straight through putting motion (which work best with a center shaft putter). the camerons seem to work better with the swinging gate concept.



After a year or so i tried again......thinking the cameron needed another chance...same result!


Now i hit an odyssey (which I started with BTW)...and i love it.



P.S. I always think i can buy a better score. And i am always reminded that golf is a great game!

Not to pick on you and/or defend Scotty Cameron putters but your last statement is a generalized statement. Scotty Cameron doesn't just make putters suited for a "swinging gate concept" only. He makes numerous putters for your swing style. I'm thinkiing the Futura, Red X, or his centershafted ones as well. I'm interested to know what model SC you were using with your straigh back and straight through swing.

Any blade style putter will be heavily toe weighted thus a swinging gate style is best..but even a Newport Long Neck (blade) will feel pretty face balanced.. ..and yes, Scotty Cameron's are THE BEST putters around.

Ah, but Scotty Cameron doesn't really believe in putting "straight back, straight through" at all. And just because they're center-shafted doesn't mean they shouldn't be used with an arc stroke. Witness:
