Recently back into the game after many years off. Was never too good (low 90's), but loved great gear.
I recently got a set of Maxfli Fire clubs and just love the ease of hitting the irons, but they feel so dead.
As I have been researching lately, seems like the Nike OSS or possibly ther 4d would be up my alley for forgiving and easy hitting. Contray to others' opinions, I actually like the looks of those.
So, is this a good choice or something else I should consider?
The only others I like are the Clevelands with the gold backs, but I think they are above my game for this year. Currently trying to break 100 once again, argh!
I have always struggled with irons and hit woods super easy. I like these Maxfli's because they basically do the work for me and my iron play has never been better. But, as stated above, looking for a better quality. The Nike OSS Slingshots seem to be going fairly cheap used.

I think you should demo as many clubs as possible. I did the same thing and settled on a different set than were even in my discussion beforehand.

I personally hate Nike Clubs. I don't like the feel to them. A lot of the clubs I've tried felt extremly cheap.

I've got a set of Slingshots on Ebay right now. They're great clubs. Easy to get airborne and straight as an arrow. I like to work the ball a little more than they let me so they gotta go!!!!! But IMO, Nike irons are very solid.

They are going fairly cheap new too if you look around a bit.

VR, shoot me your auction link.

I don't know. I am hitting these Maxfli Fire irons really well, just no distance. I love the forgiveness, cept they have no real feel.

So...Suggest some for maximum forgiveness please. NO brand loyalty with me. It's what works and catches my eye.

Ok, I'm gonna sound like a nut... but don't play Nike game improvement irons... they're garbage... with the exception of the Ignites... Because when I played the NDS's when they were out... I snapped the head off of my 3-iron hitting out of the fairway...

If you are going to play any irons... (Nike's included)... get them fit... if your a 90s shooter... I would suggest getting custom fit... MaxFli Fires are a great game improvement irons... SlingShot OSS are good irons... (I sound like a hypocrite)... I hit them they are straight but I can't work them (note: the handicap)...

I would check out eGolfOutlet.com or KittyHawk.com... They have some great clubs... and you can put whatever shafts/grips/flex/length/swingweight you need...

Bottom line: Get fitted.

I like the Nike clubs I've hit..obviously...

But, after trying some more sets I think if you're going new you can find some better irons for the same price.

Thanks guys, truly appreciate ll the comments.
I am looking at the OSS because the remind me of the Fires and am hoping the will just feel better upon contact basically.
Cleveland Hibore maybe better then?

I play the Nike Slingshots, and hit them pretty well(they are very forgiving). The trajectory is pretty high and the go pretty far. However, I am looking a new set, as the Slingshots are very bulky looking at address.

If you like the Cleveland golds then give them a go i think they suit a wide range of golfers, im off 15 and love them i lent them to my cousin whos off 30+ for a few rounds and he liked them so much he ordered his own.

I play the Nike CCi Cast irons. I like them, good feedback but may not be forgiving enough for you. But like everyone said go to the stoe and spend a while hitting some sets.

I'm gonna go try and hit some. Thing is, I truly need to hit them at an actual range, but only indoor places around here for trying gear, even within an hour or so driving distance so that makes it harder for me personally to distinguish if I truly am hitting something decent for my game.
For the record, back when I was into golf I went through tons of irons, Cleveland VAS and Titelist DCI (oversize) were the ones I did best with back then.

I hit some today not the OSS though.
I liked the 4D better than the sumo.
But, I also liked the Ping G10, so gonna start another thread.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
