Does anybody know a way to find the REAL yardages day by day at TP South. They are playing many tees in the first round that looked to shorten the record 7600+ yardage significantly!

They never play every hole off the sticks!

The pro's "refused" to play off the back sticks at plenty of hole at the Irish Open one year - because they didn't want to be hulimiated....

They stated pretty clearly during the broadcast yesterday that the goal is not to make the Pro's play from the very back tip of the tee box on every single hole, but they have the potential to change the holes up quite a bit during the 4 days with different yardages. I can't remember the hole number, but they are talking about setting them up on the ladies tees possibly Saturday to give them a chance at driving the green if they choose. That's a great idea, IMO, that gives them a huge risk/reward possibility.

I personally love the way they have the course set-up this year. Extremely challenging, but very fair.

And the whole "humiliated" excuse does sound to be a bit of a stretch.

Just now on ESPN extra they said that the Hole #3 is playing from the back tees--50 yards longer than yesterday--on the par 3. Now, on my Golf Digest TP South insert, three par 3's have alternate yardages for a combined yardage difference of 202 yards. But NOT listed on the insert are alternate tee lengths for any par 4 or 5. However yesterday one of the talking heads said that on the 615 yd par 5 13th, they were playing from much shorter tees: I think 70 yards shorter. . . I wish there was a yardage given for each day of play

IMHO, that info is reserved to give Mike Tirico something to tell you that you didn't already know.

As I recall, most of the yardage mentions on ESPN include, "...can be stretched to..." The yardages on each hole change every day in every tournament. Only the tournament officials and superintendent know for sure. The caddies get paid to get up at 4 in the morning to go find out what that is. IMHO, they wouldn't publish it because that would give the player more info than he ought to have.

Best, Mike Elzey

This is something I just haven't paid any attention to: so Every tourney, the hosts have the option to change the tees as well as the pins. VERY interesting. Previously I had thought that they moved the tees up and back within the SAME tee box, but COMPLETELY different boxes? Jeez, I have been watching golf for YEARS . . . but i have been BLIND. . . oh so very blind. . .

most courses don't change it a ton and it usually stays on the same box. Take Augusta...they stay on the same box every day. Depending on wind and hole location, they will move the markers. That is pretty typical of every course though. Torrey just has a few more options, which makes it an interesting course to watch.

That's a pretty lame excuse - which year?

2005 and 2006 - they were hitting drivers to the 3rd hole (a par 3) in the pro-am. They cut a few hundred yards off the course, so a 7400 was playing like a 7150 sort of course.

It happens more often than we viewers on tv think.
