Poor guy, ya kinda funny and he didn't make the best choices, but it won't be funny when you take your next 9.

I just saw that as well. Just stopped right at the edge of the green ready to come back down.

I am one of those people who loves when pros put up a no-penalty 9 or 10.

This was hilarious.

oh come on i was making a joke. many of us i'm sure have tried getting out of trees etc and have tried to get around the tree and have hit the tree or whatever and have wasted a shot. still sometimes i get greedy and try to take too much instead of using course management

Shouldn't that be Phil's 9?

Its surprisingly bad course management for somebody of his calibre.

After you hit the first one short, wouldn't you grab one more club? If the 64* comes up about 10 feet short (with that kind of backspin on it, I'm guessing he wanted to get a lot higher on the green, no?)... if your 64* comes up 10 feet short, why not switch at least to your 60*?

I'm a beginner, but at least that's what I would do.

i covered my face when I replayed that sequence over and over and over and over. I was like..oh phil...I know exactly how you feel b/c i did the same thing 3 days ago....but not that many times..just twice.
I'd say the only problem with having that many wedges in the bag is that you have so many options...as compared to just hitting a pitch shot which we know since he's freakin brilliant with his short game...9 of 10 times he'll stick a pitch from 60 in.

As a beginner this was a great example for you. The danger of trying for perfection can really cost. A lower lofted club, even a putter might have been safer, but trying for the perfect / hero shot has always been one of Phils greatest assets and biggest liabilities, fortunately my talent level doesn't allow for enough ego to try many of those type shots unless I am forced to.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
