Her family is in the millions for allowing her to be manipulated and marketed the way they have. Honestly, she could show up (just to fill appearance agreements) and with smart money management she'll never have to hold down a 40-hour a week job in her life. According to TGC's "The 19th Hole" guys last season, there are no performance stipulations in her contracts. All she has to do is show up, and be Michelle Wie.

IMHO, the media are as much at fault as are her parents for what happened last year. They were so happy to have a potential female Tiger Woods they jumped all over it. Oops.

She has enough natural talent to eventually work her way out of this apparent "funk", that's obvious. It's going to come down to desire. Does she want it badly enough? I think so. I hope so.

I hope so.

I hope so too. Paula Creamer, Lorena Ochoa, Michelle Wie... it could be great for the LPGA Tour if, in a few years when Michelle is done with Stanford (whether she graduates or not), if she really pushes herself in golf (and enjoys it).

I agree. I think shes got every shot in the bag, but she doesnt have the mental game. It seems like she hits a bad shot or 2 and it totally destroys her confidence and she more or less has a meltdown.
Id like to see some more of the Americans winning in the LPGA. I was watching it today and they said that of the last 30 LPGA majors, only 6 of them had been won by Americans. Nothing against any other country, but I gotta root for the home team.

Here is what I saw and heard about Wie at the U.S Open:

1) She played practice rounds by herself(with her mother, father, Leadbetter, and bodyguard close). All the other girls played with their friends or college mates on the tour. Also, likely why others didn't card a 9 at the "stupid hole".

2) I watched her hit 2 1/2 buckets of balls friday before her round. She was hitting a mild to extreme draw/hooks with a lot of pushes to the right(way right). Her driver was the same(she hit about 15-20 drives) some pushed so far right that on the course they would have been in major trouble or OB.

3) Christina Kim and Laura Davies were on either side of Wie... when Wie pulled driver they also pulled driver and both were pounding the ball slightly farther than Wie... It almost seemed that they were doing this on purpose, as if to say, "The Big Wiessy may be long, but Look! we are longer"... It seemed that there was a little tension in the air(hard to explain, but it was in their body language)... They don't seem to respect Wie at all... Perhaps because she wanted to play in mens events because the LPGA was not enough competition for Wie, even though Wie has never won a LPGA event. Hmm?

Wie seems to have the same respect on tour as Phil Mickelson does, which is very little.

Horrible management by her family and sponsors, IMO

Here is what I saw and heard about Wie at the U.S Open:

Bingo Bango Bongo. Once her parents allowed her to try for the Men's tour, ALL of her expectations when through the freaking roof. As a talented young golfer, you go through the growing pains of your own competition. You try and fail, and hopefully win the next time. THAT matures you both on the course when the situation comes again, and off of it.

Why would fellow LPGA members respect her? I don't know her name, but everyone loves that new girl who is like 14 or 15 who played last weekend. When Wie tried for the mens, she made the easy statement of, "I already dominanted the LPGA, bring on the men," and boom - disrespect before ever doing ANYTHING to bring respect in. She did NOTHING. I couldn't believe what I was watching. When Annika did it - whatever, she proved she was the Tiger so why not? (I still didn't like it because it's just for publicity). This new girl is just a golfer trying to make it on the highest level at a young age. Wie crossed that line. As for the "Stupid hole," thing - that's the other part. She had no choice but to have this mentality of "I'm the best out here, I'm going to win, and when I don't win IT WAS NOT MY FAULT." That's the worst part about letting her play. Once she got it through her head that she was the best, all of a sudden it's the holes fault, or the camera's fault, or her club makers' fault. Her parents made her this perfect golfing machine whose only mistake is playing in an inferior planet. Instead of analyzing failure and learning from it like she should, she just shrugs it off and puts it in the, "someone else screwed up for me," stack of papers. It's a shame. As for it being the media's fault - I disagree. I'm not saying what the media did was right, don't me wrong. But can you blame them? It's the media's job to find a great story and go after it, and that's what they did. It was her parents fault for letting it get out of hand, and then letting it get to her, and then letting her play with the men. Ya know what ya do? You tell her to watch a little less TV, and tell her that no matter what to focus on your game and winning the LPGA - and then college. Sorry, didn't mean to rant.

You really couldnt blame the other golfers in the LPGA if they resented Wie. Granted, she showed great promise and potential in the past, but has she delivered? Nope.

Yet, she still gets a lot of media attention because a lot of people view her as the female Tiger. Im a Michelle Wie fan, but even I'll admit that she needs to start showing us that she is worthy of the hype, the Nike contract and all the media attention. I wish her all the luck in the world and I hope she starts winning tourament after tourament after tournament; but she really hasnt given us much reason to be optimistic for the future.

Id say getting a college education is far more important than the LPGA. I think if she were my daughter, Id tell her to forget about the LPGA for now. Focus on your studies, play some college golf and worry about a pro golf career later.

Granted, Nike and her other sponsors wont like that plan; but thats something that should have been set up before she even went pro. An education should ALWAYS be more important than athletics.

Well yes that wasn't the point I was trying to make. But get her to go to college and play a couple of events on the LPGA and then turn pro in 4 years and hit it hard. Not difficult.

Yeah. The way you worded it, I kind of thought you were implying that the LPGA was more important than college.

It's interesting that 3 of the last 7 LPGA majors have been won by teenagers but not by her.

Especially since Wie has been hyped up to be the female Tiger Woods. I think she will eventually get there, she just needs to grow up a little bit more.
