Hello everyone,

I recently bought a used set of irons off ebay and the seller had them re-gripped with brand new Callaway full cord grips. I have played these a few times, and they are tearing the skin off of my hands. Is this just a "breaking in" issue, or should I look into getting them re-gripped?

Does anyone have any suggestions of grips that are a little softer that will not wear down after 1 year, preferably the kind that will not cost me an arm and a leg?

Thanks.

Yeah, it took me a little while to get used to my full cords. You'll have calluses in no time and they wont bother you, unless your hands are really soft then you might want something different.

You can get new grips for really cheap, check out www.golfgrips.com , they have everything.

if you didn't have cords before it'll hurt your hands for a bit, you can regrip them cheap if you don't like the feel of them

I tried full cords and they just dont feel good. I dont want calluses, I wouldnt play them. If you dont mind having them regripped, switch to something that is a little softer.

I recently had Winn PCi grips put on all my clubs. They are fantastic. Go to your local golf store and see what they have. That's what I did and I found what felt best for me and then regripped. If you don't want to do it yourself, the store will do it for 5-7 bucks normally per club.

I tried a set of those WInn X17, those are the softest and most comfy grips I ever tried. I know they won't give me the feedback, but they feel so good. Next time I need a regrip I am getting those. Or that 2 color GP grip I forget the name of.

I got the GP Decade Multicompounds in green/black. I like them way more than the stock grips. They give personality to your clubs too (as if that really matters). It could be a confidence thing I guess.

Look into the Golf Pride Tour Wrap grips. THey are one of the most durable and comfortable grips you will ever use. They feel like a traditional wrap grip, but with the tackiness of a new Tour Velvet.

I have the Winn Xi7 grips on my clubs. They are firm enough to give feedback, but they are soft enough to enjoy the round.

I agree with all these guys... I use the Winn G8's and love them... the PCI feels pretty good too, but is a little more firm. I think Winn is head and shoulders above the other companies when it comes to comfort and control.

Yep I love Winn grips. I got my driver regripped with the black/silver DSI and I just got all my Eye 2's regripped with the G8's. The DSI was a little pricey but the G8 line is only about 2.50 a grip labor included at golf galaxy.

It depends on the model. The PCI and DSI are a little more at around 4-5 bucks a piece. The G8's are very similar to the DSI and are only 2-3 bucks a piece. Some places charge $1/per club to re-grip some are free if you buy the grips. I just had my 5-PW Ping Eye 2's gripped in G8 and it was 17 bucks and change (6 clubs)

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
