even though i write my initials on my ball, some ******* walked up the my ball and hit it today. Would of loved to cave his skull in with an iron.

That would not be good etiquette though... if I saw you do that to someone I'd call the ranger

Things I Am Good at in Golf

- Hitting it in the drink
- Finding the rough with my drive
- Staying in the bunker- Hitting grassburners all the way to the hole- Three putting- Posting over par on 18 in only 9 holes- Swinging and missing with an iron

I play for fun, not for score, I'm a 38 handicap, do you think I'm going to fret about following every rule with the current level I'm at?

What's the point of playing the game then? Your 38 isn't a true 38 if you aren't playing the game correctly and abiding by all rules and regulations of golf.

P.S. A simple colored dot will do.

seriously! i totally agree with that!

Its not always how you drive the ball, but how it arrives.

If he's playing in a club tournament or something (which I doubt a 38 is doing), he SHOULD mark his ball. As iacas points out, the rules states players SHOULD mark their ball, not that he MUST mark his ball.

However, to blatantly say you don't care what the rules say is a belligerant, ignorant statement.

I dont mark because of the rules state you have to. I just like to personalize my ball and makes it easier to identify because sometimes my friends play the same kind of ball.

to tell the truth i didnt even know that was a rule til u guys said it, i agree with u, i just mark it because i want to personalize it. And heck, if its a rule then theres even more reason to mark it.

Its not always how you drive the ball, but how it arrives.

I play by myself most of the time, so marking my ball really isnt a concern. Besides, I always play a Titleist ball and the people who I do play with from time to time buy the cheapest balls they can find at Wal-Mart and that isnt Titleist, so even then its not a concern.

I find Titleist balls all the time where I play (probably a good 25% of all the balls I find). If I hit a Titleist, I wouldn't be sure that ball I am getting ready to hit is really mine if I didn't mark it. One rule I found interesting was that if you and your playing partner are playing the exact same ball with the same number, and you hit your shots and they wind up so close together you aren't sure whose is whose, both balls must be declared lost. Similarly, I would think that your ball technically would be lost if you do not mark it and you ever lose sight of it (or don't know EXACTLY where it is until you go around the dogleg, or whatever). I mark mine with a circle around both numbers, but there are a lot of interesting ideas on this thread; I may incorporate some of them.
