what do most of you guys do when you walk a course? use a "pull cart"
or just carry your bag? I have a nice executive course near me that is perfect for walking and I am trying to decide should I buy a smaller, light bag for everything but my woods or get a pull cart and just put my regular bag on it.

thanks

I used to pull my bag all the time because it is rediculously heavy, (could prob out weigh everyones bag except for Joshtpa's) I carry it now, but it really hurts my shoulders.

I like carrying because you can place it so close to you on the tee box, and you dont have to go around the green when walking.

I dont mind carrying my fully-loaded stand bag. It doesnt feel burdensome at all - just get the 2 shoulder strap style and you are set.

I carry my bag (Ogio Vision SS). It's not the lightest bag but the Schling System really helps disperse the weight and seems to allow me to walk more upright.

I am 50 and for exercise and too stay in shape I like to carry my bag with 14 clubs in my bag. I have a speed cart from Sun Mountain but I like to carry now. I played my best round carrying my bag.

I have a pull cart but am considering the switch to carrying as I am trying to lose weight and strengthen up...got to get a stand bag, though.

One of the problems is that all the bag styles that I like turn out to be ladies bags, lol. I just can't help myself...I love plaid and argyle...

Neither. I use a push cart. Pulling puts too much strain on the shoulders when going downhill. Which is half the time at the courses I play. My bag is way too heavy to carry, even for me. It has 15 clubs (mostly blades at +1") + every pocket is full of balls + I carry those club weights for warming up. I don't know how much it weighs, but I can carry the 65 pound weights at the gym easier than my bag. Actually, they're probably pretty close, now that I think about it. It makes the cart really stable when pushing it, though.

I prefer to just carry it on my bag. I've found it to be the easiest.

I am carry only when I walk. I tried the pull cart once but I found that it wore me out more than carrying the bag. I found there was a lot of resistance pulling through the grass, especially the thicker rough. It really did a number on my shoulders.

My two carrying tips -- 1. Get a bag with the dual straps and the padding on the bag where it hits your back. 2. Empty out everything except what you absolutly need. It is amazing the weight loss you can come up with if you clean the bag out. Leave the umbrella, sun screen, jacket, extra gloves, extra balls, etc. in the car. I will only have my clubs, 3-4 extra balls (I'll start with 2 in my pocket), a water bottle, and that is it.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Is that good enough for carrying all your clubs minus the woods?

I carry my bag. No use for pull carts.

P.S. Why is this thread in Swing Tips? Shouldn't it be in Golf Talk or something?

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
