Anyone here heard of a Titleist Dead Center Putter? The model I have is a SP-203. It is a perimiter weighted blade. I have really come to like it... just wondered if any of you have seen or used on.

There it is! Kind of a crusty looking old beast isn't it? Mine is in considerably better shape but it's ugly as a mud fence. I've grown to trust it though. The only reason I'm searching for another putter is this old Titleist is painful to look at. Makes your eyes burn .

I've fitted it with a really tacky Winn grip... the stock grip was falling apart. It feels stable in my hands although the putter head could be a little heavier I spose.

Thanks for the heads up.

Now that looks like a great application for lead tape!!!

I just got a new Titleist putter for x-mas and I love it to death, I've only played two rounds with it so far, and don't want to jinx myself, but I'm putting better than I ever could have imagined especially on lags. I really think good putting is much more the result of of a nice consistent pendulum stroke and a VERY still body. I remember watching Ernie Els break his putter by slamming another club into his bag at the Tour Championship and having to putt with his sand wedge. The tv showed him getting a beautiful roll with the blade of his sand wedge (I know iacas loves this as a drill). A good putting stroke makes a good putter and all the moment of inertia, perimeter weighting, urethane inserts, and alignment aids can't get you that.

Jeff, you may want to save up for a Scotty Cameron. His blade putters are very, very solid and widely used. So too are Pings, of course. The putter you've got is a pretty traditional one as those go - heel/toe weighted and so forth.

Yeah, the Scotty's are beautiful and by all accounts you aren't just paying for a name, you are paying for a quality piece of equipment. It's not a bad idea saving for something really nice. I just may do that. I'm heading out to a golf shop and then a course this afternoon so I'll try and have a look at the Scotty's along with whatever else they've got laying around just for kicks.

I also putted really well for a number of years with the old "Bullseye" style putter. You can find them quite inexpensively. And the 8802 models, too.

Webbed feet effect on the hozzle? What do you mean by that?

You know what webbed feet look like right? Well, that putter looks like it has a webbing between the two thicker parts that connect the shaft to the putter face.

I heard there were new models coming out called "studio style" and they contain a GSS insert. Any truth to this?

I haven't heard anything... Scotty typically doesn't do the insert thing, AFAIK. I mean, my Red X has the face inset in some white material, but the face of the putter is still metal.

It's true, the 05 studio stainless series will have a german stainless steel insert in the face that is attached to the back. Supposedly the GSS is a softer metal than the 303 stainless that's usually used (tiger and many other pro's putters are made completely from GSS). GSS is also what is the face of the red X is made of.

I'm not crazy about the '05 look, they've got screw heads showing in the back cavity and kind of a cheesy logo. I'm glad I picked up a 04 scotty, but maybe the new look will grow on me.

I've got an old Dead Center putter. Still love that thing, in fact I just regripped it last week (although it's not my current primary putter). I keep it in my office for putting during conference calls.

    • Day 38 - 2024-11-07 Did a little HackMotion work to test some things out. My wrists hinge, seemingly, WAY more than they should. 😄
    • Day 189 (07 Nov 24) - Played nine with my friend Mike - mixed the bag down to a 7-club setup (3w, 4h, 6i, 8i, Pw, 54 & P).  Goal: play more irons into the hole.  Played one set of tees forward. Shot a 41 (6 bogies, 2 pars and 1 chip in birdie).  Had other looks at birdie (two of which turned into 3 putt bogies off lipped out pars.  Even with the struggles with the putting, I enjoyed the challenge of having “in-between” distances - and choosing between a club that goes too far and one that may get there if struck well.  Excellent session on course management and shot planning.
    • Had a 19 day layoff from all golf activity while we toured parts of Spain and visited grandsons in Sweden and England. Today was the big day and the weather cooperated with sun, little wind and temps in the mid-50's. I was not expecting much and made sure to play a shorter set of tees (5,805 yards  68.4/121). Joined two gentlemen even older than me. Frankly, I was really surprised by the results: 75. Only one birdie but I managed to never 3-putt on some fast sloped greens. I am going to sleep well tonight (5.7 miles and 20 floors).
