Just started the green book "if you like golf.." Another great read so far.

I had heard this before but didn't know where it came from-I'm going to improve my score quicker through reducing mistakes than by getting birdies.

The other was an observation that I will always practice the things I am good at, rather than those things I should be practicing

Good tidbits to remember

Finished the green book in Feb. Didn't think it compared to TLRB. Due to Covid, picked it up again last week. Must have been in the mood for Penick. Been golfing. My go to City course is open, with covid changes of course. The last two rounds, just didn't feel relaxed. Thinking too much. Read something in the green book that talked about just swinging the club and getting the ball in the hole. Felt much better the last round on Saturday. Thought about Penick after two different par 3 tee shots, both landing in the bunker. First time in a couple of years I blasted them out properly and saved par. Gotta remember to just swing the golf club and get it in the hole.

Starting Mr. P's green book. End of season winter reading has started. Always find a nugget per read I didn't bond with before.

So far, its the comments on Laying Up. Us amateurs try to get as close as we can, take too much club, and roll on in. Gotta lay back.

Been trying to lay back when I know its a 1 in a 100 shot. I'm not a risk taker and the lay up  fits my personality

If you’ve read Lowest Score Wins, you would know that we want to get as close as we can without getting into hazards or grey areas like bunkers. Laying back can be hitting a 200 yard shot to a green 220 yards away. There’s no need to leave it farther out because the closer we are to the green, the more likely our next shot will get closer to the pin.

I also like reading these books. But at times I think Harvey is just downloading thoughts. He seems to have contradicting advice from one section to the next. It is more like a golf mindfulness book than a true strategy book. I enjoyed it, but just take it for what it is, a nice ‘I love golf’ book.

Good synopsis Boog. I tried to read H's books but maybe due to living in Dallas surrounded by "Penick evangelists", combined with his writing style just didn't fit my reading desires. As far as getting as close as possible I agree 100%. I would much rather mess up a chip than scuff a "perfect 100 yard" club. 😛

really fix grammar this time

    • Day 126: another busy day, so just did some mirror work. Checking set up and backswing and working on a few downswing feels.
    • Day 310 - Working on my follow-through. Higher chest, belt towards the target. Small swings at first, building to a fuller swing (still not thrilled with my short backswing).
    • Day 201 (19 Nov 24) - Walked the back nine at Minnesott today, played the “white” tees with the persimmon woods and bladed irons.  It’s a challenge I really like as the clubs are shorter in overall distances.  It really forces me focus on the value of the approach game.     Somehow yesterday’s post did not load / so it’s above.  Today (Day 202) I did some backyard short yardage work - 7i dink  and rolls, 9i chips and 50deg pitches - working to get it in before the rain started around noon.
    • Day 51 - 2024-11-20 Played nine holes of Sanctuary Moon with a 6I while pausing in the backswing and otherwise just practicing. If you're into Star Wars, or don't actively hate it… this is worth checking out.
