For the most part i only play 9 holes at a time when i go out. I put in my scores for the first 9 holes on yahoo's tracker but then left the rest blank, this shows my handicap as a -15 and that isnt right. my question is how do you enter scores for only 9 holes?

This has been discussed. As long as you match the rating/slope statistics with just the nine holes you played, the differential should calculate correctly. That is, if the rating on the course is 71.0 / 130, each nine holes will probably have a rating like 35.0 / 125 and 36.0 / 135. Then you add two nine-hole differentials to form one full 18-hole differential to feed into your handicap calculation. That's how it should be done, I'm not sure how to do it within the Yahoo thing.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

I use oobgolf.com . It's free and tracks a bunch stuff as well as takes both 18 hole and 9 hole scores. It's worth checking out IMO if you want to try something new.

I don't know about you but I always shoot the exact same score on the back nine as I do on the front.

I mostly play 9 at a time too. If you cannot find the slopes and ratings for the front and the back 9 (if you are playing an 18 hole course) online, call the course and ask. If there is a club in your area like the Chicago District Golf Association , chances are they will have a lot of your area's courses profiled and broken down by each 9 holes and each set of tees, which is convenient.

Some sites will use acceleration to calculate 9 hole rounds and some will just require you to enter 10 9 hole rounds to add up to 5 18 hole rounds.

Not until version 2.0. Our nine-hole support is a bit weak in the 1.x versions. I didn't anticipate so many nine-hole golfers.

Were you estimating your handicap index (before entering the scores into oobgolf) by basically subtracting par from your scores (i.e. 97 score - 72 par = 25 handicap)? If so, then yes, it's accurate. Remember, handicap index is intended to estimate your potential for scoring, not your average score. That is, the score you would shoot on your best days (less than 25% of the time.) Or were you using a different handicap calculator? If so, then which one, because one of them is wrong.

I've run my handicap in other online calculator's and it's all been within a few decimal places, so I guess it is pretty accurate. I don't really use it for the handicap though. You can analyze so many things with oobgolf.com. It can track stats with certain clubs in your bag (accuracy, score with/without the club), track stats on certain holes (Average score, best score, worst score, average putts, etc.) It's got pretty cool development charts too. I really like it and the fact that it's free doesn't hurt either.

i think most 9 holers would be after-work folk playing twilight that get stuck in the twilight crowd (myself included) and don't get to finish 18.

but then again..there's a lot of 9 hole golf leagues out there

Or folks that squeeze in 9 holes before work, because 18 in the morning on a regular basis would get them fired.

Try narrowing your criteria down in case you are spelling something different then the database has. A simple search by state is available.
