Which club are you using out of the rough from a long distance? I'm currently using a 2 iron but am thinking about going to a 5 or Hybrid. I really dont like the "look" of hybrids but if i found one that i was confident with, why not? I'd rather use a 5 wood but i would need to find one that could get out of the rough consistently.

I love using my #2 or #3 hybrid out of the rough on long shots. They do very well.

Hybrid. Its hard to hit a wood out of the rough and I dont hit my long irons very high, so Id have to go with the hybrid.

I've always hit my fwy woods well from the rough. Just found the right hybrid for me, and finally am getting rid of my 5w. I still miss that awesome contact with a well hit 5w, but the hybrid is simply more consistent.
I've been tyring numerous hybrids and like most things, have to find which one works for you. Most of what I tired I didn't hit as well as the woods.

I thought only Tiger Woods can hit a 2 iron? Did he replace his with a 5 wood? remember the miss hit at Torrey Pines at the Buick Open several years ago with his 2 iron.

Hybrids out of the rough is what its designed for with the weighted sole.

I used to use a 5 wood, but started using the hybrid just this year. I've got no regrets ...

LOL, I see you're using the FT 4H! Worth it's weight in gold. I was at a driving range trying to hit my new Adams hybrids and failing miserably, and there was a Callaway Demo going on that day, so I walk over and ask to try their hybrids, hit the FT 4, first try right on the pin from 175, second shot the same, I turn around and say, "I'll take it!" Bought the 3H too. Fantastic clubs, from fairway or rough it's money.

I'm in this exact boat at the moment so good to see the discussion points...

I am shopping for a 3 wood and am toying with replacing the 5 wood also with a hybrid (17/18/19 deg)

I've hit a couple of hybrids recently, and love the height you get with distance, that then just drops onto a green and stops.

I hit my 5 wood well (around the 210/220 yard distance - 240 swinging silly hard), and consistently, but its harder to stop on a green unless hitting into a wind.

I would have to vote for None Of The Above. I do not have any of them so I do not use them.

I hit hybrid out of the rough. The shorter shaft keeps me from jumping all over it. Plus I feel more comfortable playing the ball back and hitting down out of the rough with a hybrid. If it's a 5 wood distance out of the rough, I'd rather play short and take my lumps.

I use a 5 wood now, but hopefully as of Christmas this year or sooner I should have a complete new set of clubs to replace my dad's old hand-me-downs and be using hybrids instead.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
