I have the titleist vokeys oil can wedges I have a 52 and a 56 and I cant seem to get them go as far as I want them and they go so high. I thing I am flipping my wrists but I dont know what to do. I try pushing my club foward and also try putting the ball farther back in my stance but nothing seems to work. I know its not my wedges bc one of my friends hit it perfect. Is there is thing I can do get get them down and not so high.

How far do you hit them and how far do you want them?

Personally if i hit a full shot with my wedge - the higher they go, the further they go if struck properly. If i punch them to keep them flat i normally never get that kind of distance.

If i dont trap the ball well with my wedge, it feels for my like i´m undercutting the ball and obv. losing distance on these kind of shots - the risk goes up the higher the loft is.

Use a PW? That would seem to be the simple answer. Why do you want to hit longer and lower with those clubs?

More loft - more spin - better wedge - my PW is by far not as good on putting spin on the ball than my actual wedges - thats the only reason i can think off.

I know what you mean...you want more of a tour trajectory wedge, not a high parabolic one. It is hard tell what is going on without a picture of your swing, but you might want to try to flatten your swing plane.

If you want to hit them farther then the club must come through on a shallower path. If you are hitting them to high then probably your wedge swing is to steep. When you try to hard to hit down on them to maximize spin that is a common side effect. Hitting it low low with spin is more difficult, thats why those PGA guys get the big bucks,

It might be a shaft issue. I don't know how many different shafts are available for the the higher degree wedges, but it may be worth looking into. Check your shaft with some friends or a demo club and if it is different see what happens when you hit the same loft with a different shaft.

I probably don't know much about this subject, but with every other club the shaft is one of the biggest factors in trajectory, so the same might hold true here.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

put the ball way further back in stance(even further back than halfway) and this gets so much spin on the ball and keeps the tracjectory down. i did this and it worked for me.

It's all in your finish.....nothing else.

High Shot = Finish High

Low Shot = Finish Low

Try it.

Definitely a very handy thought. By controlling your finish, you control how much you release the club. Cutting your finish short will lessen how much you release the club and lower the trajectory.

I hit them high as well. If you want them to stay down low, you have to put them back in your stance and basically punch the ball. That will keep it lower. You also have to be good at controlling the distance. When hitting the punch, you have to put more spin on it and that is difficult. Also, if you cannot spin the ball well, then it is going to release and you need to be hitting the front of the green and having the ball release to the hole. If the pin is in the front, that is where that high shot will come in handy.

I am going to try this as well. I have the same problem as shotstop.

I can't even hit a 54* a 100 yards. I probably max out at around 85-90 yards my ball goes so high. Thanks for the tips everyone.

Back in your stance, Dent. You say you play everything in the front, off your front heel. You can't do that an not expect it to shoot straight in the air.

Then again I'm in the same situation as the OP, no matter where I play it it goes sky high. I've been playing almost everything near my back foot now.

Use a PW? That would seem to be the simple answer. Why do you want to hit longer and lower with those clubs?

I'm with Socrates. The point of full wedge shots is to hit them high and land them soft. I rarely hit full wedges from the fairway, that just invites spin that I don't need. I like to play a one hop and stop shot. And that is easily achieved by hitting wedges no more than 80% potential. A 110 yard PW is a fun shot to have. Same with a 90 yard gap wedge, or 70 yard SW. No need to max out. Golf is not about you hitting your ball farther than your playing partner, its about beating their score. Learn to use your clubs effectively and that will become easier and easier.

But, if its really distance you want. Don't change anything with your setup, or some unorthodox forward press, just try and create a steady backswing with a full shoulder turn. Then make sure your hands lead the clubface into the ball and create some compression into that ball. TO find the best ball position/setup pay attention to your practice swing and where your clubhead brushes the fairway through the impact zone.. More often than not that spot will be a lot farther forward in your stance then you would think with most clubs. Make note of the impact brush in comparison to your stance, and setup from there. You'll hit the ball a lot more flush.

What Ben said is right on, wedges are meant to be control clubs. The fuller you swing, the higher they go with more spin, so theres not a whole lot of options to make a wedge go further than severly delofting the club.

My advice? Just be a man, and take the eighty percent PW instead of a full GW. You'll get closer more often. I had the hardest time to start convincing my self to not hit a full wedge. I remember, when I was htting my wedges best, not hitting a full SW for over 3 months. If I had 90 out, I took a PW and knocked it down. It does alot for precision.

    • Welcome back! Evolvr.com? I don't use the full extreme end of it, and that's probably dipped to 75% or so nowadays. But I use the sole more than I don't, yeah. Also… it's good to learn this shot: Middle up. Not generally outside your feet in either direction. I generally have it slightly forward of center, yeah. Short version: tip your upper body in the direction of the slope. Look at the GC3. You can find them for really good prices sometimes.
    • 3 rainouts in a row….that’s SAD Sorry, I’m in MI or I would take you up on a round.
    • Day 3:  I tried to hit a bucket at the range but an 80 year old man (he told me his age, showed me his knee replacement scars, told me all about his chronic low back pain, etc) couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mansplain to me every little thing I’m doing wrong.  Dude, it’s my third frickin day.  I know I need to twist my hips more, I know I need to keep my head/chest down and not pop up, I know I need to hit through the ball and follow through further, yada yada yada.  I know.  That’s exactly what I’m trying to work on.  How about you tell me or show me how to do those things instead of telling me to watch Iron Byron videos?  Rough day.
    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
    • Day 26: Did full swing practice after work. First 15 balls were working on top of the backswing feel, and then tried to incorporate transition feel into the next 15 balls. A's, although this will be my last season of being a fan as they leave for Las Vegas (by way of Sacramento for a few seasons). Hard to see myself rooting for the Giants, but if that's the only MLB in the Bay Area, I guess I might get on board.
