Updating my driver (the ones in my sig line).

It is way overdue and I'm really looking forward to the change. I'm hoping I made the right choice on the shaft and loft. I'm a low trajectory hitter but get the following distances from my sticks: 9 iron = 130y, 7 iron=150y, 3 iron=200y, 3 wood=~220 depending on the roll, 300Ti driver = 235-265y depending severly on the roll.

I normally tee up the ball so the equator is even with the top of my driver and I play it off my left heel.

What advice can you give me about playing the new driver?

I'll be buying longer tees when I pick it up....hopefully this afternoon.

I'm dying to get out on a course somewhere and air it out. We just got my nine year old son a new driver last week. His first shot ever with it was a solid and high drive that rivaled anything he'd ever done. I hope to follow his lead!!!!!!

Nothing I can really recommend, just have fun with the forgiveness of the new stick compared to your old one!
What I Play:

Driver: Sasquatch SUMO² 9.5º Stiff
Hybrid: HiBore 16º (3W replacement)
Irons: Staff Ci6 3-PW StiffWedges: Vokey Spin Milled 54.10 60.04Putter: Newport Studio Style 35"Ball: Pro V1xAge: 15

you're pretty much setup for the 460 already. they're FORGIVING more-so than the older drivers. you'll find the shots to be more consistent & as long as you crack the sweet spot & have good tempo, they go pretty damn far.

Also with newer drivers & shafts, I feel it's easier to generate a faster swing speed so you'll be getting out there pretty good. Our irons go about the same distance so you won't be mad at how far you hit the driver....
I got my dad a 460 head this year and it took him 2 weeks to get used to and now he's cracking that sh** 250 on a regular basis. for a 68 year old..i'd say that's pretty damn good.

remember just play the ball inside your left foot. ball tee'd up to the equator and as long as your timing's the same, you'll be hitting it on your upswing

Sweet performance from your father!!!

My dad is 60 and he's hitting his G5 a ton with a nice high draw. He's in the 230-240 range.

Approaching 40 myself, I feel that my best golf may well be ahead of me. I'm putting and chipping better than ever and my irons are accurate. Hopefully the tee ball will be working very soon.

I'm in the process of making some slight swing changes to simplifiy things, ease tension on my knees and wrists while at the same time pick up some yardage.

Today's heads and shafts really open up the game to those of us who make a less than perfect pass at the ball.

Some 460 drivers have a 46" shaft in them so you might have to position yourself a little farther away from the ball.

Just Grip It & Rip It!

Ill recomend the titleist D2. Before it was $399 but it recently dropped to $299 because they are coming out with the 909 driver this october. Its a pretty good driver. My average drives with the Aldila VooDoo shaft is about 310 straight but if i bomb it maybe 330-335 with a slight draw.

I always like to check out the demo clubs at a local course and have noticed a couple of things with the 460cc drivers. I really have to adjust my stance and tee height to get the right mix. Sometimes it takes 10-12 balls on the range to get the right set-up. Every club/shaft is a little different so it takes some experimenting to get it right.

Moral of the story, if you don't hit it good the first few times just keep adjusting your stance and tee hight until you get it right. Your normal setup with your old driver might not work with the new one.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

    • I'm available all of those weekends.   How do I vote?
    • Option one. Would like an ace even if it’s a worm burner. Have witnessed a couple of aces so would like to be on the other end.
    • OK - I think we should narrow down a weekend, and start there.  We're going to try to do this in June. I've created a Doodle poll where everyone can vote for the options that work for them.  Please include your username so I can track/post results. Doodle Doodle is the simplest way to schedule meetings with clients, colleagues, or friends. Find the best time for one-to-ones and team meetings with our user-friendly calendar tool. Get started today! (I only put in the Saturday dates, but assume the outing would include Friday - Sunday). Once we select a date that works for the most people, I'll start to line up courses and schedule and go from there.
    • Option #2 because I'd add the condition that it's in a tournament. Because that'd mean I'd break par in a tournament. And I already have a hole in one.
    • Hole in one is nice, but those low rounds stick in my memory better. I have two holes in one (and a third on a pitch and putt course which I count as a half). I've shot in the 60s three times in the last 10 years or so and I remember each one pretty well. I'd take the low round.
