To be fair I've hear the admins asking people to bump old threads instead of starting duplicate threads.

I would imagine it would be good if it was about same subject, but this was not.

Well there are about 1,000 plugged ball threads so this was better than adding another to them.

An important reason for not resurrecting a thread several years old is that the Rules change and older posts can be contradicted by the more recent ones.

I've been caught in exactly that way in this thread. I pointed out  to IACAS that the USGA and R&A; rules are identical  when he said that they might be different.  They are certainly identical now,  but in 2009 when he made that remark, they were different.   The only difference , mind you, was the value of the prize that could be awarded for a hole in one, but nonetheless there was a difference.  More important errors can arise from carrying on a Rules conversation after a 6 year gap!  Easily done though.
