a stiff shaft on my driver?

Quite possibly. But if you're hitting it straight, I'd leave it alone. My swing speed is around 115, so I recently put an extra stiff shaft on my driver. I still slice, just not as severely. My swing is the problem.

Ok thanks for the advice guys.

I just bought a Cleveland Hibore XL with a gold fujikara shaft. Wondering if this was the right choice. hmm... may have to reconsider.

It depends what you do with the ball, if you are constantly slicing, and have tried everything, then you can upgrade to a stiff shaft.

Myself: I have around 100 MPH swing, with that, I'll slice everytime because of it, my fundamentals are fine, the shaft just whips.

The regular taught me to swing slower, resulting in all straight drives now. I swing in the 85-90 range now.

My swing speed is in the 95-100 mph range and I play a stiff driver, but played a regular shaft 3 wood for years. I got it very cheap and thought I would reshaft it, but I hit it so well, I never found the need to change it.

In general, a stiffer shaft is harder to turn over so unless you have a really weak shaft for you and miss it all over the place, going to a stiffer shaft will not help a slice- it will make it more pronounced.

No doubt. I had problems with hooks on the driver. I play regular shafts in all my clubs. My driver speed is 92-97. But when I went to a stiff ProV2 I was able to take the left side out of play. Now I play a cut drive. According to the numbers I maybe should be in a regular. But the stiffer shaft gives me more feedback and keeps me in the fairway as it is a more predictable ball flight for me.

No, it doesn't. My dad has a swing speed of 97 mph with the driver and ueses R flex and he hits the ball pretty straight, and long, and with a mid trajectory.

If you're getting good distance and control from a regular flex shaft, then play a regular flex shaft. Numbers on a launch monitor don't put balls in the cup.

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

True! I think i'll stay with my regular shaft for now.

I suppose it also is dependant on your transition at the top, too.

Nick Price style will really load a shaft...something to consider as well.

I dont know what your swing speed is but I think your going to have control issues with the reg flex shaft. You can get by with the reg flex if you have great tempo and a very consistant swing speed though.
If you hit it good then go with it.

    • Rule 1.2b refers you to a section in the Committee Procedures (Section 5I) that helps explain what a Code of Conduct may (and may not) do.  Defining acceptable behavior (including smoking) and applying Stroke of DQ penalties are certainly within the Committee's authority. That Code of Conduct certainly should be available, either in written form or in a webpage accessible to all.  It may not show up on the "standard local rules" for an organization, the "hard card", as it sounds like its a policy of this particular golf course. Assuming that's the case it should show up on the Notice to Players for this particular event.  If you can't find it, ask someone, send an email, try to find out.   In summary, yes the Committee can DQ (or withdraw) a Player for smoking, even before or between rounds.  But its up to you to go from there, communication is the key here.

    • Hmm... I not sure I completely understand. If the course has a no smoking policy, then he shouldn't smoke at the course.  I'm assuming since you are aware of the policy, it must be written down somewhere.  As far as getting disqualified from the tournament, I would think that would be up to the committee. But it feels like it is within their power to disqualify, so why take the chance?
