I was thinking about why we play golf on my way home the other day. For me, it's about the process of learning the game, becoming more patient and having a good time. I deal with frustrations during the round by trying to determine what I did incorrectly and trying to learn from it.

Why do you play golf?

How do you deal with your frustrations when playing?

I play golf because its fun, because its good exercise, because its fairly inexpensive and because it keeps me out of trouble.
I deal with the frustrations by not taking this game too seriously. I try my best to be the best golfer that I can be by practicing everyday, but when I play poorly I just write it off as a bad day or that I caught a few unlucky breaks.
Right now I absolutely suck with my driver and my 3-wood and its frustrating, but I just keep working at getting better with those clubs.
It wasnt all that long ago (3-4 weeks ago actually), that I absolutely sucked with my irons and my wedges, so Im getting there. I just gotta keep working hard and try not to be too hard on myself when things dont work out.
There are just some days when I dont hit the ball very well and I get pretty frustrated. On those days I just put the clubs away and give it my best shot the next day.

Because I can't surf and competitive eating seems too taxing on the body.

Its something to do, its life long, and it has goals that are attainable and fun to reach. It makes you work hard, it can make you or break you.

I play for fun mostly. I'm competitive so I'm always trying to shoot a low score. I practice a lot, and for a while. I try to make my weaknesses my strength. I did that this year. I'm quite proud of it too. My iron game was really struggling in May and June, and I took a month and a half now and really revamped my swing, and I've been hitting my irons great. Now I just have struggled with my driver, and my putting. LOL.

But yeah, I just try to get better and shoot lower scores. Those are my goals right now and that is why I play golf.

It's the only game that I have found where you do not have to run somewhere after you hit the ball.

some people play golf so they can:
a. drink
b. drink afterwards
c. compete
d. cheat and lie
e. brag about their stuff
f. meet some cool people
g. wear cool clothes
h. drive those little cars
i. do business in a non-office setting

can anyone add to this list?

I like the independence. No relying on other people to make, or break, you if youre not on top that day. and when you do something amazing, its all you. And it's fun, i can play it all my life, and I have aquired the dream of going to the Tour, and becoming the best. It really helps oyu to work on your game

Things I Am Good at in Golf

- Hitting it in the drink
- Finding the rough with my drive
- Staying in the bunker- Hitting grassburners all the way to the hole- Three putting- Posting over par on 18 in only 9 holes- Swinging and missing with an iron

I was playing yesterday and we discussed this exact subject. We agreed that we love it because we get to hang out with 3 friends in a beautiful environment playing a game that is full of surprises. Love it.

I practice golf and compete in tournaments because I do LOVE the game---the pressure, the difficulty of developing a steady game that holds up under tournament conditions, playing outdoors, and playing with members of my family. I agree with you that course management AND management of our emotions make it very challenging. The way I deal with frustration is to talk to myself. I never use a golf cart, and usually stay away from the players in my group so I can give myself a pep talk or scolding, depending on the circumstances.

One aspect I really like is trying to shape different types of shots---fades, draws, high or low shots, less than full shots, etc. It is a creative game that makes us use our imaginations.

The answer can be found at the 19th hole, as you enjoy the company of your buddies, no matter how you did on the other 18.

It's:
  • Fun
  • Challenging
  • Never the same thing twice (rarely anyway)
  • A lifetime activity
  • Good excersize
  • Outdoors (for the most part)
  • A good way to spend time with friends
  • A good way to meet new people
  • etc...

Something just clicked one day with me.

Kind of a "where have you been all my life" moment.

The game suits my personality. So strange that it took me this long to pick it up.

Because I don't have to rely on anyone else. The good, the bad, whatever happens out there is all because of me.

That and because it's difficult to be good at this game. Makes it kind of addicting.

    • Latest lesson, game is a struggle at times 🤣 early extension troubles, flat shoulders on backswing. It's not going great with the big stick.   Any attempt at maintaining spine angle on downswing causes the club to crash into the ground. Hate this game 🤣 I won't disagree with you as your knowledge far exceeds mine, but I literally can't get the grip more fingers without it resulting in a strong left hand. Any advice/tips I'll happily try them 🙂
