Right now I've got a 460cc size driver, and all I hit is massive slices with the ball. It stayed out of my bag while i used my 3 wood to tee balls since i hit that fairly straight. My 3 wood is busted and I dont plan on replacing it until next season.

Which leads me to the point of this thread: Do they still make drivers with smaller heads? I've been looking at used Callaway Biggest Bertha drivers.

I, too, like the smaller headed drivers. The Callaway C4 is one of my favorites, as well as the BB II. The TM r7 Superquad is 460 but looks smaller. Check out some drivers at a golf shop, it is amazing the difference in sizes they appear even though they all are 460cc..... jmoc

Maybe the 460cc head is hitting slices (besides the player) not because of the head size....but because of the loft. Maybe you need to get a driver with a higher loft.

I slice but it's more operator rather than equipment.

ebay it up

Titleist 905S - 400 cc but the pear shape will make it look a little smaller

the 983 series are a little old and it would be hard to find one in good shape

Whenever I slice, its the same.

Are you making good contact with the center of the face? I found I was actually hitting off the heel and once I found the center of the face, I gained distance and control.

I threw my clubs into the lake so it's time to start over...

Oh, i know its my bad swing. The club face opens up drastically on impact. But for some reason on the smaller heads it goes straighter.

btw my driver is 10.5 loft and stiff graphite flex

I have the same problem. I thought moving to a Callaway GBB or Taylormade Supersteel 250 would fix it but it didn't kame much difference. It definitely has to be your swing or loft. Do you hit the three wood the same as your driver?

I tee it up alot lower with the 3wood and have the ball more forward in my stance. If i try that with the driver I get a slice that carries 2 fairways over.

Probably because the smaller headed 3W is some 15*.

A suggestion....perhaps look for a 'tour spoon'...or a 'strong 3W'....one with a 13* loft. That might help out.

Why not try a TM r510TP, older driver with good technology and a range of high quality shafts at 390cc that looks great at address and they are pretty easy to find secondhand. Another option is one of the original series Mizuno MP001's that were 380cc, also a more compact looking head with good technology and you can pick them up secondhand for next to nothing. Whack a decent shaft that suits you in one of them and they are fantastic.

However as others have already mentioned, it's 99% certain that the problems you are experiencing lie more with the indian than the arrow.

not necessarily true - I bought my 975D off of 3balls and it looked like it had never been used - the only flaw on it was that the grip said *demo* - and for $20 including shipping I could hardly call that a flaw

You could hit a TM 425, it's got a smaller head.

You could also just try and choke down on the driver.

I have the same problem, even with a 12 degree loft driver with a R flex shaft. My driver swing speed is around 91 mph. I've also tried a 10.5 stiff flex with similar results. Strangely I can hit my 3 wood off the tee 220-250 yards (carry and roll). I think I'm going to pick up the R7 425.

One of my golfing buddies use to have similar problem! He switched from TM r5 Dual N TI Driver 450cc to GBBII 415cc 10* regular, and he fixed the slice. Funny but true, I know! We have about same handicaps, he sacrificed the distance for about 5-15 yards on his drives, but he gained a lot in accuracy, which is more important, for high handicappers (my opinion), than the distance! Go ahead and try it!

I'd suggest the 975 series Titleist driver. I'm not sure the size but it's a nice fit in between small and 460cc. Not to mention, you can find em on ebay for 30 bucks.

I found an old small head driver in my garage that seems to be in good shape aside from a dent on the top. Arnold Palmer brand "Arnie's own jumbo" its called, with golf pride tour wrap grips still in great condition. Club is altleast 10 years old.

I will give this club a try tomorrow before i go spending any money on a club

    • Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.
    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
