Hey right now I am considering the mizuno mp 60 for my new set of irons. Do you have any thoughts or comments about them? Are they forgiving?

Yeah. A am a consistent ball striker but I want a set of irons that I can get away with the miss hits. Thanks for your input.

heres the deal, you should get the fli-hi irons in the 3, 4 irons, and then get the MP 60s in the 6-Pw. These irons are sweet, up until about a week ago, ive hated mizunos. I had one bad experience on the range with them and i never gave them a second thought, till the pro at my course got the MP 60's and let me hit them. these are crazy irons, i would love to get them, but i bought i10s this year already. They look awesome, they play awesome, and they are one of the more forgiving players irons. Demo them, if you cant hit em, go with the 57s

With your 5.3 index i think you would like them. I had them for 2 years and when i was swinging well they were terrific. Issue for me, was that when i was not swinging well, they were difficult. I grew up with offset eye 2's so without as much offset, this might have been an issue also. I have a good friend (approx. 7 hcp) who just got them this year and he is loving them also.

I have since moved back to Cleveland CG golds - more forgiving for the bad days, and just as good for the good days.

Miz makes a great product - and hold their value well, if you get them and decide they are not right for you. Good Luck.

with a 5.3 index I'd have to say you're a pretty damn good ball striker. you'll love em. they're as forgiving as a 1/2 cb can be. mis hits tend to lose 10 - 15 yards and be a little right. but when you're stroking it well, it's rewarding. i got mine when i was a 20 hc last year...and i've seen, felt, and heard nothing but improvements in my game. shoot, i'd say you'll fall in love with them the minute you pure a shot.

I am about to get them as a 21 hdcp, I don't see why you wouldn't like them.

I am very consistent with my irons, and routinely practice with a set of 1970's Spalding blades. I love the risk / reward of the blades, only if I could get dial my driving I would be in the mid teens regarding hdcp.

Anyway, I am getting them with DG R300

if you want to get away with the mishits then the MP's really aren't for you ..

I so wanted to get a set of blades when I got my new set earlier this year .. I am a very consistent ball striker hitting between 10 - 13 greens a round.

For some reason the mizzy's just weren't my cup of tea, the mis hits I really felt.

I tried about 10 sets of irons over 3 days before choosing the tour burners. These are great on mishits .. my misses are generally a few grooves down on the club and about a half a ball in on the heel. These irons only lost about 5 - 10 yards of distance on those mishits and still flew straight.

When I played 5 times a week through college I played titleist tour model blades .. after college, I got tommy armour 845's .. played those until I got the taylors.

it's a matter of just hitting as many as you can at the range, seeing what the ball flight does on your usual mishits and seeing what club performs the best .. that's what mine came down too.

Since you're a 5.3 and "want to get away from the mishits," I'm guessing that you're playing blades. In which case the MP-60s will give you appreciably more forgiveness than you're used to. They won't eliminate mishits, but they'll smooth out those strikes that are a little off.

Definitely wait until September to buy, however, or at least use the pending release of the new MP-52s and 62s (due out then) in your negotiations. The price of the MP-60s should drop (if they haven't already). The MP-52s will be more forgiving than the 60s, and the 62s seem placed as a replacement for the 60s. Personally, I'm thinking of getting a combo set of the 52s and 62s. The specs are reasonably close in the 7-8 iron of each.

Well, now I play cavity backs not blades and every once in a while on the range I put impact tape on the iron and I am amazed on how forgiving they are with almost no distance loss. I really just want a forged, more workable club that still performs on the heel and toe hits.

I have heard so much talk about mizuno irons and how amazing they feel when they are struck well. I can't yet afford the mp 52 or mp 62 when they come out but the mizuno mp 60 falls in between my $250- $400 price range.

    • All of these things are possible. Couple of things to bear in mind in particular with regard to Sasho's point about a club flying out of the hands. First of all, even though a driver might have about 100lbs of force on the hands at impact at 110mph or whatever it is, most people have two hands on the club at that point (Vijay excepted, but I'm guessing his front hand was strong enough to hang on on its own), so 50 lbs per hand would be sufficient to hang on to that. Second, grips are also tapered, which helps quite a bit and they're sticky, which also helps. It seems unlikely that grip strength limits clubhead speed because the club might come flying out of your hands, but it's possible that your brain is holding you back because it knows (or thinks) it'll be uncomfortable. I would note that on occasion, I have hit drivers well off the toe or heel and the club twists in my hands as a result. That's unpleasant and I obviously try to avoid that. Subconsciously, perhaps my mind is thinking I might do that with a faster swing, so it limits my speed somewhat.  In short, while there are high schoolers with 120 mph club head speed, I think that's quite a ways from the norm and if their grip was stronger, perhaps they'd be at 125 mph. I don't think high grip strength generates speed. If there is something there, it is much more likely that low grip strength saps speed.

    • I turned it off in the first five minutes. His weight was way on the heels at setup. Even I know that’s not a good setup.
