Could there be a bigger dick swinging contest that this one?

Sure, my average drive carries 350 uphill into the wind w/a faint draw every time... Doesn't yours?

I really don't think that there is any magic or special "dick swing" to hitting the long irons. I've worked very hard at it though. I also have a higher swing speed which, I'm sure, helps quite a bit also. When I was growing up I was always playing with the older kids or the adults at my local course. I had no choice but to learn how to hit my long irons just to keep up. As I got older I started hitting the ball further and started hitting fairway woods less and less. Eventually the fairway wood never even left my bag so I started leaving it at home. I didn't really start this thread as a "dick swinging contest". In fact, I generally avoid those types of threads (driver distance seemingly the most prevalent). I'm sorry if this thread offended you in some way.

I reshafted a set of 78 Wilson Staff tour blades, 1-pw. Its taken awhile, but I really enjoy and even look forward to hitting my 1 iron now. Also b/c these irons will only work when hit with a smooth full swing it has done wonders for my swing so when I get back on my main set of clubs, (Mizuno's) its like I have training wheels on. The funny things are (1) my score isn't that much different with either set of clubs, (2) I have a greater sense of accomplishment when I shoot a good score with the 78's, (3) the 78's feel better when pured and (4) what those irons has done for my swing is fabulous. But thats just me.

I usually have a 2 iron in the bag and occasionally a 1 iron. I also have a couple of hybrids that are in the bag from time to time. For me it depends on the course and the conditions as to what I carry.

Nope, I do have a 2 and 3 iron Titleist 740cb however, and they have found a permanent home in some corner of the garage, I only put them in the bag if I want to play a real crappy game of golf.

I do love my 4 and 5 iron though. And I can be pretty crafty with the Cobra Baffler 20 degree. Bidding on a few hybrids on ebay right now, looking for a 16 or 17 degree, so I can throw my damn 3 wood in the same corner of the garage (unless the shot calls for a worm burner under some trees, or a wicked snap hook )

I'm up in Hugo so I usually stick to the North side of the metro (Tanner's Brook, Oneka Ridge, Edinburgh, Keller, etc). I grew up in Albert Lea though so I'll play in Southern MN quite a bit as well or, from time to time, I'll meet my dad in Northfield (Willinger's).

I used to carry a 2 iron but that was when I had my dad's clubs. Now I've just got a 21* hybrid. Works a lot better for me.

I carry neither. I considered a 2 iron, but the MP-57 doesn't have one, so I got a 4 wood instead.

I remember trying a 2 iron at the range, I would hit it straight around 175 and thought "wow whats all the hype about this thing, it's not that hard..." A staff member that I occasionally joke around with takes my club and says "Thats not how you hit a 2 iron!" "This Is!" and he just bombs it dead straight over the 200 yard marker. It was really funny.

It doesn't feel very good.

I carry a 2I when it's windy and there are alot of tight 375 to 410ish par 4s. When I hit a 2I and people ask me what club I hit, I get alot of funny, surprised looks. I have a hybrid, but I just love the 2I trajectory, especially on the knock down.

If my swing gets better, one day, I'll buy a 1I and play around with it. That ought to be fun.

I had one 2 iron in my life.

I was in my original set of Callaway irons. When I sold that set and went to a set of DCI, I hung on to that 2 iron for a while longer. I used it for tee shots on tighter driving holes. Funny thing, that club, others would stand on the tight driving holes and tee off with tenative swings with their 3 woods. I could give it a rip with the 2 iron and turn out okay....no backing down required....just a full healthy swing.

I eventually phased it out with a 5 Wood.
