Range at least twice a week at 8 bucks a shot. (2*4=8*8=$64)
Two rounds per week minimum (2*4=8*35=$280)
One round per week executive (1*4=4*7=$28)

So it is safe to say I am over 300 a month during the winter time because rates increase.

My home course is only $31 a round but two of the others I like to play are $54 and $58 respectively so it could fluctuate a little.

The younger players might not get it, but for those of us with real jobs, bills, etc...

It aint cheap

I left the numbers on the low end on purpose

Time to stop putting so much into the 401k's and stock programs and get golfing :)

/sarcasm

The sport is hurt by the cost, not by the desire to play

I golf for free because I work, i get free carts as well. So basically nothing other than the gas that it takes to get to the golf course, and maybe balls, but i've only bought a box this year(thank god for all the hacks that buy prov1/x's ) and that was prov1xs for 40 bucks instead of 60(work discount)

I'm just curious why some of you guys don't buy memberships? My dad usually saves around 300 dollars and he doesnt golf as much as he used too, he used to save almost a grand i think.

Probably the lack of country clubs around them? Or many courses do not Offer Memberships. Or the fact that memberships cost more than they spend in a month.

for me, I do get a membership every year, just decided to take this year off and explore some new courses. Next year I'll be back at a new country club.

I pay $160 in membership dues, hit the range 2-3 times a week, pay about $20 a month for club storage and locker. Good thing is that on my home course, you don't lose many balls. So I'm around $200 per month, but will get lessons too that obviously up that cost.

2-3 rounds at $5 a round = $10-15 x 4 weeks = $40 - $60 a month
2-3 box of balls a month = $30 a box

So roughly $100-$150 a month.

Really. I believe for my dad it was 600 dollars since he taught hte pro in gym class and was his golf coach, but usually 720 dollars and its like 20 rounds and its paid for itself and 40 rounds and its playing for free or something

Why dont people buy a membership... numerous reasons.

Lack of quality clubs around me.
10K Initiation Fees arent worth it.
Freedom to play any course I want.

I always thought that until I took up the game. $10 for my local par 3 course and $18 for twilights at a respectable full course and $7 for a large bucket that is more than enough to satisfy for a range session. One local 18 hole course has a season pass for $300 though most others are well under $1000 for one season. These are very respectable rates when compared to an activity like skiing in which even the middle of the road lesser known places are charging $50 per day and the top hills have mid-week rates higher than $60-70. Golf can be done cheaply. More cheaply than I would have guessed. But it still is a lot of money.

I like to play a variety of courses. This year we've played mostly one but in all the years before, we'd play 10 or 15 courses, 2 or 3 times each. That precludes buying a membership for me.

We spend about $240 in greens fees and carts per month (wife and I, one round a week). Plus balls, gloves, etc. Plus I'll play once or twice a month after work. So yeah, WAY over $201.00

My membership is $700 and we probably get a good 5 months of golf in between the cold, so I voted between $100 and $150. I think I "paid off" my membership after about a month. I think I probably averaged 5-6 rounds of 18 per week (yes, I'm a golf nut!).

Strange, because I was asking myself that same question last week and started an excel spreadsheat to keep track of all my golf related expenses.
I'm probably in the 150-200 area (membership included) ... I think.

I work at a golf course so I spend very little money. If I had to pay for all the golf, range balls, etc I use it would be WAY over 200 a month. Which is exactly why I work at a golf course!
