Since my employer decided to hand out bonuses yesterday, I decided it was time for a new putter. The putter I'm using now is an oversized 1996 Spalding cavity back blade type with some kind of insert in it. It was 35" long and I always choke way down on it.

Anyway, I headed over to Golf Galaxy in my hometown of Indianapolis, IN and literally hit every single putter they had available. After about an hour non-stop I had narrowed it down to an White Hot XG #9, Marilyn, and a Sophia. As you can deduce from the title I went with the Sophia.

This thing is just buttery smooth and it seemed to roll very true. So, I took it out to the course to get a feel for it in real life (instead of the astroturf in the store) and the company's claims are spot-on. It seems like the ball doesn't skip at all.

I won't bore you with all the details but I'm surprised that this company isn't more popular. They have a great line of products and seem to have excellent customer service. Anyway, just thought you all might be interested in hearing another new club story.

P.S. Maybe I'm an idiot but I really don't understand the big deal about the Scotty putters. My Sophia was $130 brand new as opposed to the ridiculous $300 price tag on the Scotty's. I guess to me they didn't feel any better than anything else. I can't help but to think it's simply keepin' up with the Jones'. But, if that's what feels good, more power to ya. Personally I hit the putter better than anything else, including the Scotty's. Funny thing is, I was prepared to spend the $300 for the Scotty when I walked in the store.

In the bag:
Driver: `09 Launcher (10.5º) w/ Fujikura Fit-On Red Stiff

I attended the PGA Expo a couple weeks ago in Vegas. I spent some time in the

booth and share your opinion. Good feel and a true roll... on astroturf. Looks like you have found a winner!

No, you're not an idiot. You actually found a putter that worked for you based upon feel. Scotty Camerons are the rage since he customizes putters for professionals. For us mortals, he has the Ping Anser style putters packaged in various ways. I like the feel and sound that his putters make but is $300 worth it? The Ping Redwoods are a little less in price, as are the Bettinardi Mizuno's. I cannot personally tell a difference. With that said, I do have two Scotty Cameron's but they are used.

Yes! putters are great. I was debating between the Scotty Napa and the Sophia but I was having trouble with the heel shafted putters. I found a good used Scotty Bullseye Blade and it feels great.

I bought my Scotty about two weeks ago, truth be told, I have yet to pull my Yes! Sophia from the starting position. I do agree that they are very underrated.

I had a Yes! Callie but I lost all my feel with it and got an Odyssey white hot xg #1 and enjoy the feel and love the insert a lot better than the Callie.

Yes putters are awesome

They are gaining in popularity around here. Most golfers that I play with use (in order of popularity):
  1. Ping
  2. Odyssey
  3. Yes
  4. Scotty Cameron
  5. others

I've tried a few Yes putters that I could easily see dropping in the bag.

The Yes! putters are awesome! I've been using a Tracy for 18 months or so, and just got a forged Callie. I got a Scotty as a present and use it now and then -- and it's a great putter -- but putters are really personal. Have to pick them out yourself, just like a girlfriend.
