My guess is he's working through some mental insecurities. I keep him on my highlight list because he's alocal guy and I hear stories from folks who know him. After his college and amatuer accomplishments he was eager to join the pros.

I was told that after the masters (where he was low amatuer) he was genuinely disappointed because he didn't win. He thought he was that good.

he played well last year missing only four cuts. But, this year he's made only one (of three) and just might be going through that place where the body can't do what it knows because the brain is questioning everything.

I also follow Kevin Na who made over a million as a rookie and finished 67 on the money list. He disappeared before the season was over and didn't return until this week, even though he's a west coast resident. I hope he plays well.

We wonder why these guys aren't easier to keep track of but forget sometimes, that they have lives, too.

Here is a little info I found.

The first step for Moore was to take a break from 2005. His offseason was spent resting at his Las Vegas residence, healing nagging wrist, arm and hip injuries. He went three full weeks in December without swinging a club. He bought a second house in Graham with older brother, Jeremy. Finally, Moore headed back to Las Vegas two weeks ago for a three-day practice session with his father, Mike, who is also his coach. “It was getting back to timing with his swing,” Mike Moore said. “He was feeling really good. All I did was … check his alignment, posture and keep the tempo good.” Ryan Moore said he’s refreshed and ready to tackle a full season on tour, estimating he will play no more than 26 events in 2006. He is signed up for all the tournaments on the West Coast swing, starting Thursday with the Sony Open in Honolulu. “I’ll try my best not to (over work), to take a couple weeks off when I need to. And I’ll need to, because this is a lot of stress,” Moore said. “I just know I play my best golf refreshed.”

Here was an interview from the sony.

Ryan has withdrawn again this week. Thats at least three tournaments in a row that he was shown in the field and then removed. It's one thing to not enter, but another to enter and then cancel. Is he injured ? Any updates?

Last I heard he was just "contemplating" a lot, and his game had suffered a let-down. He'd better get over it quick or he may not keep his card!

The boy has game, no bones about it. He's young, green and fresh to the PGA tour competitive schedule. I don't think he'll be in danger of losing his card, even if he does play a limited schedule. The guy got his card off of playing sponsor exemptions last year for pete's sake.

All in all, I hope he is well, and doing ok.

Is Ryan Moore the tour player that played with his wrists cocked vertically in front of his body to relieve stress on his injured wrist?

Yes, that's him.

He played in 22 events due to an injury during the middle of the season. Underwent surgery to repair a fractured hook of hamate in his left hand on Monday, March 20. Injured the hand in 2005 but tried to play through the pain. Missed eight weeks and returned in late May. Made four starts in majors as an amateur with a best finish of T13 at the 2005 Masters. I ran into a friend of his who told me that when Ryan played in the Masters as the result of winning the US Amateur he was dispappointed with his 13th place finish. He actually expected to win the thing. Because the surgical procedure to fix his hand didn't go well he has trouble with his take away. So, he has learned to lift the club straight toward his head, then take it back horizontally like a baseball swing. Even with this contrived swing, he made enough money in the last half of 2006 to keep his card as a rookie.

Thanks for your response, I would love to see a video of this, have not been able to find one. Pretty incredible that he kept his card under the circumstances. He must have some serious talent!

Many birdies!

I actually got a chance to watch him play at Shaunessy in 2005, my dad's girlfriend works with a guy who was volunteering at the event and we got free passes for friday and saturday. He's an impressive player, an odd swing and now that he has that hitch, I really dont see him winning in the near future. Taking some time off and healing physically and mentally is probably the best decision he could make right now.

    • Hi @RetiredOldMan!  I am glad to see you are still playing and having good scores.  I hope that when I am 79, I am not only able to play, but still able to produce as good scores as you have been doing.   I look forward to hearing more of your success and your opinion of the senior flex shafts.
    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.
