I was wondering what your average fairways hit, GIR's, and putts per rounds are. What your strongest facet of the game is.

Fairways: 28.5%
GIR: 18.7%
Putts: 1.97

Currently my best I'd have to say is my putting since everything else is in utter turmoil.

I play to a 16.8:

Fairways: 28.6%
GIR: 26.5%
Putts per hole: 1.89
Putts per GIR: 2.16

I'm expecting my fairways and greens to shape up here shortly. My putting numbers look OK, but it feels atrocious on the course.

I would say best part of my game is my distance off th tee, I can hit close to 300 yds, lacking is putting, mostly because I have played that much this year.

Eventually, I'll get the hint and stop advertising, which is against the rules.

Well I dont really have full season stats, but I can comment on a 72 hole tourney I played last season:

Total
GIRs: 52/72 = 69.4%
Putts: 135
Score: 298

Per Round
GIR: 12.5/18
Putts:33.75
Score: 74.5

Seems like putting needs work....a lot of work
sorry about the mid hcp, I got too caught up in reading all the posts I wanted to participate

I play to a 15.1 hdcp

Fairway 43%
GIR 25%
Putt 1.8

Putts with GIR, I do not track, but probably around 2.2
My average score is 89.4

Enjoy life now ladies and gentlemen, there is no second time around.

Last 20 Rounds: 38

My strongest is by far my driver. I've struggled in my swing change with my irons but they're coming around. Putting is so inconsistent.

Here's a interesting stat for you.

Average +/- Par on 9 Holes (Front Nine/Back Nine)
Last Round: +15/+8
Last 3 Rounds: +13.7/+9
Last 20 Rounds: +14.2/+11.8

Think I need to warm up more?

I'm averaging 36 putts per round.

My short wedges and chips have been pretty decent.

I'm hitting driver a good bit better this month.

My irons used to be very accurate.....now I'm hooking them a bit. For instance, I'll pull out 4 iron and set up with.....the face just looks strange at address. I've got a forward press going but it still looks closed.

Two things I'm trying to work on now are making my swing more compact and reducing grip pressure for a better release. One thing that's helped both this goals is a slower takeaway....on full shots as well as putts. Keeping it slow and feeling what's going on.

Keep in mind that I'm a 17, so I'm closer to a high-handicapper than a mid.

For my last 20 rounds:
Fairways 43%
GIR 21%
Putts: 35.5

So you can see my putting needs work, but so do my approach shots. I use Scorecard, so here are some other stats I keep close track of (also for the last 20 rounds):

3 putts: 3.5
Putting Accuracy, 0-3 ft.: 80%
Up & Dn: 24%
Up & Dn first putt: 13.5 ft.
Sand Save: 16%

So you can see I need a lot of work on my putting. I need to get that % inside 3 feet to almost 100%. I think that alone would bring my U&D; and SS percentages up. And next most important is my chipping and pitching. I would like to average closer than 8 feet. 13.5 ft is way too far.

i almost always keep note on my scorecard of my fairways, GIR and putts, but for some reason, i've never bothered tallying them all up for an average. i take it on a day to day basis cause my game might be right on it one day, and it won't be anywhere near it on another. a quick average estimation, though, would be about 30% of fairways (though a LOT of the time, i'm only out by 5-10 feet), GIRs is probably about 30% as well (i'm rather ashamed of that), and i 2-putt consistently, usually with just one or two 1-putts and also one or two 3-putts.

I play to a 13.6. I kept my stats for 8 rounds about a month ago. I was playing my typical game at the time. My averages were (and probably still are):

Fairways: 72%
GIRS: 7.2 per round or 40%
Putts per green: 1.83
Putts per GIRs: 2.02
Up and down percentage from 50 yards and in: 44%

So why am I a 13.6? Because of these per round stats:

Doubles: 1.2
Triples or worse:1.8
Penalty strokes: 2.2

You don't know how right you are! I'm a feel player and can't stand being mechanical on the course. So if my head or rhythm goes for a hole or five...FORE OB! Some fat iron shots thrown in there don't help either. And my course has a ton of unplayable lies. I'm most proud of my fairways hit which are not inflated at all. I it owe to my driver setup and the fact that I have a short backswing. But I only averaged 240 during these 8 rounds.

Oddly enough, I kept track of my fairways hit (with any club) and fairways hit when using a driver. Both were 72%! So I'm no more accurate when I play conservative with a wood, hybrid or iron off the tee. Also most if not all of my "triples or worse" stats were due to the "penalty" stats, so I guess those are almost in the same category.

Fairways: 28.5%

I'm hitting about 8/14 fairways per round. But last round I played, there were 6 that I missed in such a way that I had no hope of GIR, and they were on holes where I didn't need to pull out driver. Stupid!

Speaking of GIR, I average 4 per round. If I can get that up to 7, I'll be happy. I'm at 36 putts per round. What used to be an easy up and down is now a GIR with a tough first putt. And my chipping has gone south lately, for reasons that escape me entirely, so I'm down to averaging only 2 saves per round. At least I know what to practice!

I hope this isn't off topic, but here is a link with some interesting information on stats. I'm not sure how accurate it is. There is a chart about half way down the page that shows average stats based on average scores for a 71 to 99 shooter. I think it's worth a click to compare your stats. It has helped me know what to work on in the past.

I heard a rumor that the next version of scorecard may have a feature that will allow you to check these sorts of stats vs similar handicaps and the like.

Interesting. The table was very accurate for me. Most of my stats were a little better than the average for 89 and a little worse than for the 85. The most glaring difference was fairways hit (which they designate as a weak relationship). My fairways hit is slightly better than for their average score of 79 - it's pretty clear that I need to stop wasting the opportunities I give myself when I hit a fairway, but I already knew that.

The formulas are pretty accurate as well. My average score is 87.65 and when I used the formula based on par it predicted my score to be 88.5. The formula based on GIR predicted my average score to be 85.5.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
