Rate Your Golf Game

Got an idea for a thread like this. It seemed like a good idea. All you do is rate your golf game on a scale of 1-10. I'll start.

I am currently at a 12.8 and my goal for 2009 (is that thread started yet?) is to get to a single. I really think my biggest room for improvement is off the tee. I know the short game is important but there is just too big a gap between my driving/tee shot and the rest of my game

I can't really give much of a course management score because my drives/approach shots are so unpredictable. I think I generally have a decent plan, but it's hard to follow through because such a large fraction of my shots are total misses/20-yard fat rollers...

My handicap is a direct result of hitting fairways (avg 12/14) and greens (avg 14/18). I'd really like to improve things around the green to get back where I was a few years ago. My sand game suffers because I'm rarely in the sand (avg 1/72 holes).

This is based on my previous years of play. The way I scored would probably be 2 points less in each category for a 10 handicapper. Probably another 1 or 2 for a 5 handicapper.

First half of season:

course management-7 because im pretty cocky when i play. It's what I read im supposed to do in golf isn't a game of perfect.

Driving and chipping have really been saving me lately, but my approach shots are still a crap shoot. Gotta figure out a way to hit my other irons the way i hit my 49* wedge -- with that baby i'm always able to find the green.

My driving needs to get better from a fairways hit standpoint and I am currently working on a "get it in the fairway at all costs" swing to help with that. Distance wise I hit it a very long way and it is definately a key asset to my game.

My iron game is pretty solid especially from 200 yards in. I hit a great deal of greens (well over 60% on the year)

Short game is getting better, I went to a different method of using one club to hit 90% of the shots and my up/down percentage is improving.

Putting is my Achilles heal. I give it a 2. If I was even a decent putter I would be a plus handicap. I routinely 3-putt 2-3 times a round and miss a ton of putts in the makeable range. Using Utley's book I am improving but its gonna take a long time.

Course management is pretty good I play smart for the most part.
