Guys getaway golf trip

my buddies and I were wanting to plan a guys golf trip soon. We were thinking of a real nice on next spring. Maybe Pebble Beach or some other once in a lifetime type places.

But for now, we were thinking of one on a smaller scale. Somewhere we could probably drive too and be cheaper. We are basically in Dallas, Texas... one buddy mentioned Southern Hills in Oklahoma...

looking for any and all suggestions. Either just good courses, or could even be package type deal...

I've been spying a golf getaway in St. George, Utah. Lots of packages there and quite economical.

I know you guys want to "go" somewhere, but you have some of the best golfing in the U.S. in the DFW area. I'd look around at what you have locally for the mini trip.

You guys could always stay at a seedy hotel down on harry Hines and hit up the strip clubs after golf if it will make you feel more "away".

With that said, there is some really good golf in both Austin and San Antonio. Barton Creek in Austin has a great track and I've heard good things about La Cantera (I think) in San Antonio.

A little bit of a drive but you could look into the Robert Trent Jones Trail in Alabama. I believe you can buy a pass to play all the courses. Grand National in Auburn was ranked one of the best publiv courses. I've played the one in Dothan. I've always wanted to tour all the courses. It would be a fair amount of driving but you'd get to see a lot of places.

Bandon Dunes in Oregon has a package that ends in March: 2 nights lodging, two rounds of golf, unlimited practice, 2 buffet breakfasts and one dinner for $370. http://www.bandondunesgolf.com/

You can fly to Portland and drive or fly into North Bend, OR (airport code is OTH). If you fly into OTH, there are shuttle services for $45 RT that include free beer and they play Caddyshack on the DVD player...

If bang for the buck is the most important thing, Myrtle Beach is a great choice. 100 courses to choose from ranging from pretty basic to top 100 in the US. You can play a variety bof courses and include a couiple of the top tier courses for a great golf trip at a reasonable price. Check out this site.

Someone else has already mention the RTJ trail in AL. It is also a great value. However, it offers fewer options and requires more driving from course to course as compared to Myrtle Beach. The best options on the RTJ trail are to play Capitol Hill in Pratville (3 great courses) and Cambrian Ridge (my 27 favorite holes on the trail) which is about a 45 minute drive south of Capitol Hill.

The Albuqureque/Santa Fe area of New Mexico has a lot of excellent courses. Sandia, Paa Ko Ridge, Black Mesa, Twin Warriors etc

If price is not your main factor, the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Fountain Hills area of AZ can't be beat, but it is expensive as compared to Myrtle, the RTJ trail or NM.

Thanks for posting that. Seven buddies and I were kicking around the idea of making a trip of the RTJ trail next year.

We usually like to stay in a cabin or large condo so we can play poker and BS in the evening. Anything like that along the trail?

We stayed at the hotel that is on site at capitol Hill. It is very nice and not too expensive. There are meeting rooms where you could play cards, but not a place where you could get very rowdy if that's what you had in mind. Don't really know what the off site lodging options are, but I'm sure thetre is a wide varirty of hotels and possibly condo rentals in the Montgomery area.
