I'm trying to picture this - was his head already resting on the horses head or something as it was coming down? I can't think of any other way there would be impact unless he fell off.

It is like whiplash. the force of falling down several feet to a hard impact is substanital.

That's close but incorrect. If the club is damaged in the normal course of play, you have the option of continuing to use it in its altered state. Quoting rule 4-3a,

I stand corrected.

I understand he didn't realize the club was damaged until he used it again. So he may have been aware of the rule and still violated it. Lots of players bang their clubs around. Camillo walks down the fairway sometimes bouncing his club handle off the ground and catching it. A clever trick but a club could get bent and he would not know it till it is too late. Maybe they should just hand them back to their caddy! SubPar

In that case, he better have said something along the lines of "YEEHAW" or "YIPPIE KAY YAY MOTHAF*****"
