I would have to say that my goals seem pretty basic, but I reckon that's just me.

I started golfing about 90 days or so ago and am averaging 120 or so over 18 holes. I would like to cut that down below 100.

I also would like to get to the point that I am two putting or less on each green. So far, I can't seem to find a rhythm for putting that works consistantly.

I would also like to get to the point that I can make a consistant half swing for approach shots.

I don't guess those are beyond me, so I will leave it there.

Goals for me are:
To play 18 holes a week.
Consistently break 100.
Improve my putting to greatly reduce the number of three putts.

I've struggled over the last few months including a point where I picked up the shanks and could almost not play at all. The shanks were corrected with a golf lesson (I was standing to close to the ball/stance too wide).

I may now have succeeded in my long quest to stop coming over the top /swinging out to in as my current bad shot is a hook or block. This is leading to inconsistency in both distance and direction but i'm reasonably satisified as it's an issue that i've not had before. I rarely hit a slice these days. My handicap has come down a few points but i'm expecting it to rise again whilst I work through my current swing issues - I cannot play to handicap at present. I'm working on a stronger grip and more upright swing plane and finally I am trying to focus on hitting down on the ball.

My putting has been quite good at 34-36 putts a round and my chipping better.

Hope to report better progress next quarter!

I definitely work on my setup and backswing. I'm currently standing too upright and when I take the club back, the face is immediately shut. I have to work too hard to square the club back up at impact.

Any tips/drills for setup and posture?

Over the winter I set a goal to break 100, but am already looking to try and break 90 by then end of the season, hopefully.

My goals going into this year were (1) play more rounds; (2) improve my consistency in ball striking; (3) improve my short game; and (4) get my handicap to single digits.

Still working on all of them.

Im still a bit of a beginner so I've got a lot of room for improvement, just started playing last year
1. Hit my drives in the fairway more often. I dont hit the ball real far, maybe average 220-225, sometimes in the 240-250 range at my best, so it makes it easier to hit 2nd shots from the short grass.
2. Hit my short irons better. I have hybrids that i use for long irons, 3, 4, 5 and I hit them pretty good but sometime struggle with the shorter irons with accuracy and inconsistent distance.
3. Practice more. This so far I am doing, spending more time at the range during the week and mostly only playing on weekends, hopefully this will help me with 1 & 2.
4. Not get upset over bad shots. Im still a beginner so I know im going to make a few shots every round that are just plain awful but just try not to worry about it, we're all out here to have fun right.
I started out basically from scratch last year never having played before so I've improved a lot in a little over a year, at this point im happy to play in the 40's for 9 and under 100 for 18. The courses in my area in southern Illinois are mostly not that difficult or overly long so that helps a bit.

1. Practice more (never used the range last year, this year I will get a membership)

Well, for the first time ever, I have dropped my HI to single digits!

Now, I just need to keep it there. Only #4 left. It's definitely possible...just need to play 18 good holes.

In my Datrek Rage bag:

Goals:
1. Get handicap down to 25.
2. Break 90.
3. Start to hit at least 5 fairways a round. I know that your drive for show and put for dough, but when you lose 10 strokes a round to bad drives, you have to focus on it some.
4. Practice at least once a week.

I would like to break 100 on an 18 hole course.

The best I have done was 112 at McAnn, and I shot a 52 on a tougher 9 hole course in the area last weekend (college hill).

I just started to take lessons as well. Is this a reasonable goal considering this is my first year playing golf?

    • Played Sunday and implemented the Mayo spinner. Hit my second shot long and left on three to a bare lie. I have seen this shot to a tucked pin but I don’t swing across it enough and hit it too far with a ton of spin but it rolled into the bunker. I pulled my approach short and left on ten to a horrible lie with about 3’ of rise to a tucked pin maybe 5’ on the green. Ball is in a damp lie with debris behind and in front of the ball. Hit it to 3.5’ but horseshoed the putt around the right edge, which was a common miss. I hooked my tee shot into an unplayable lie in the hazard on the left side of the par 5 16th. Hit a great recovery that rolled to about 45 yards short of the back right pin. Hit the spinner over a bumpy green that rolled just over the ridge to 3’. Sank the straight 2.5’ putt. Felt like I had good control of these shots!
